Daily Mail: Three Group 1s at Sandown Park

Premier Racing at Sandown Park tonight features the world’s premier distance race – the $175,000 to-the-winner G1 RSN Sandown Cup Final.

The Watchdog has tipped Geelong 680-metre track record holder Collinda Lady over G1 winners Mepunga Ruby, Gypsy Wyong and Jarick Bale, plus G1 placegetters Orca and Untapped.

G1 placegetters Titan Blazer and Kinson Bale line up against promising chasers Fearless Max (won his last five races) and Rapaki Rocks (fastest heat winner) in the G1 Harrison-Dawson Final with a first prize of $100,000.

TAB Phoenix champion Wow She’s Fast headlines the $100,000 to-the-winner G1 Sapphire Crown Final, but G1 National Futurity winner Idolize, quickest heat winner Levitation and Immunity – now a dual G1 finalist – must all be respected.

Group 1 RSN Sandown Cup Final

TAB fixed odds: $4 Place

The Watchdog says ?: ORCA (1) is extremely versatile, and I thought he was enormous last Thursday night when reeling in the classy MEPUNGA RUBY (2). With ‘Ruby’ expected to move up the track as they head through the first bend, he should get a nice run through in the initial stages and I expect him to be prominent throughout. At the price, he looks a great place bet.

‘Must Watch Race’ Preview ?:

Star stayer MEPUNGA RUBY (2) was a tad disappointing in her heat, but she will be much better for the run and a clean getaway could see her make amends. Four-time Group 1 winner GYPSY WYONG (4) was also defeated in her heat; however, we all know she is a big-time performer and if she finds the rail early, she can work into contention in the middle stages. Superstar JARICK BALE (8) thrashed his rivals in a breathtaking 41.29sec last Thursday night and a repeat of that would see him land a third Group 1 victory. COLLINDA LADY (3) is a star on the rise, and she is drawn to get a great run. With natural improvement, she has the scope to get down to around the 41.35sec mark and make a big impact. ORCA (1) scrapes the paint, has a great record here and with the ability to lead or come from off the pace, he has the potential to cause an upset.

The Watchdog’s selections: 3 – 1 – 2 – 4

? $4 Win – AMNESTY
? Sandown Park ? Race 9 ? Box 3 ? 715m ⏱ 8:59pm
TAB fixed odds: $2.40 Win
Form ? https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/666538594/race/9

The Watchdog says
? : AMNESTY (3) made her staying debut last Thursday night and although beaten, I thought the run was great. She wasn’t able to lead, so she wasn’t at her brilliant best, but she still managed to carve out a smart 41.69sec and with the lack of early pace in this event, she should get a cheap lead and a sub 41.50sec run could be on the cards.

? $2 Win – MEPUNGA MUSTANG
? Sandown Park ? Race 10 ? Box 6 ? 515m ⏱ 9:21pm
TAB fixed odds: $6 Win
Form ? https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/666538594/race/10

The Watchdog says
? : I didn’t have MEPUNGA MUSTANG (6) on top in my tips originally, however with the scratching of the speedy LAKEVIEW BONNIE (7), his chances are enhanced. He is normally very reliable at box rise and with DO IT (5) expected to carve across and look for the rail, he should get a nice cart across, and he is capable of carving out ridiculous sectionals when in the clear.
