How to spend $20 on the Sapphire Crown Final

A wonderful line-up featuring inaugural TAB Phoenix champion Wow She’s Fast will race in the $152,500 Group 1 Sapphire Crown Final (515m) at Sandown Park this Thursday night.

After looking uncomfortable in two runs at Wentworth Park, The Watchdog was enamoured with the heat victory of Wow She’s Fast.

“She returned to her best here at Sandown last week. 29.19 (seconds) coming from off the speed and the way she had to work through the field, and the determination she showed off the back was just wonderful.”

Despite recording 10 wins from 15 starts – eight-of-10 over 515 metres at Sandown Park – the expert form analyst is troubled by the speed drawn around the “tremendous chaser” in Box 5 and is also too short with TAB fixed odds ($2.60 at time of recording; now $1.95).

“I’m sure the Greenough camp (Jackie and Kel) will have her cherry-ripe and ready to spear the lids but … she might get crowded in the run to the first turn.”

“Idolize has got the writing on the wall and I think she looks a really good bet.”

The Watchdog has selected Idolize (Box 2) to claim her second Group 1 victory after taking out the National Futurity Final at Wentworth Park in January.

“She’s just a lid pinger, does everything right, will run her 29.3, and she’ll give them something to catch.

“I think she has enough speed to clear Vayda Bale (Box 1) at the first turn and Let’s Win Coin (Box 3) will give her a bit of cover as well.

“She’s got the writing on the wall and I think she looks a really good bet (now $4.40).”

$15 on Idolize to win at $4.40
$5 on Auspicious Queen to win at $51

Levitation (Box 7) was “enormous” as the fastest heat winner (29.06 seconds) from Box 7 and she loves Sandown Park, but The Watchdog is predicting that Levitation is going to be four- or five-wide through the first bend and have to work hard mid-race.

Immunity (Box 8) “did it the hard way” from Box 7 running 29.37 seconds in her heat win and the “marvellous chaser” has to be respected with eight wins from 10 starts in the outside box and a Sandown Park personal best of 29.13 seconds (currently $8).

“Forgotten chaser” Auspicious Queen (Box 6) is a potential blowout prospect at $51 ($31 at time of recording) according to The Watchdog.

“She’s had the four runs in from a spell now, she’ll be cherry-ripe, fit, and we know she’s capable of going pretty quick time when she’s out in the clear.”
