DM: Gr8 night ahead

Welcome to today’s edition of the Daily Mail, which includes an in-depth analysis of tonight’s Gr8 Eight at The Meadows. Here’s a snapshot of the key highlights we can look forward to, along with The Watchdog’s $10 spend…

? 4.53pm ? Geelong: Blue bloods Night Shifter (out of dual G1 winner Striker Light) ? first starter Val Ali, whose dam Born Ali is a Group 1 producer from the famous Mugavin line.

? 6.22pm ? Geelong: One of Australia’s most gifted greyhounds Equalizer ? Hazey Roy, who has pushed the brilliant Koblenz in his past two starts.

? 7.08pm ? Geelong: Eagles Nest Egg, a Group 1 finalist who has clocked 29.10sec at Sandown Park ?, is looking to end a run of five defeats.

? 7.23pm ? Geelong: Chop Scotch (11 from 21) will look to continue his outstanding recent form, having finished top-two in his past nine starts.

? 7.38pm ? The Meadows: Multiple group finalist and G2 Laurels winner Aston Gwen will take stopping.

? 8.16pm ? The Meadows: Mr. Fix It (29.75 PB) ? Christo Bale (6 x G1 finalist) ? Carry On Star (2nd G1 Sapphire Crown).

? 8.39pm ? The Meadows: Providence Bale will look to extend his winning streak to five.

? 8.57pm ? The Meadows: The Gr8 Eights are back at Sandown and The Meadows throughout May and June, each boasting $21,000 in prize money, with tonight’s edition The Watchdog’s Must Watch race of the day.

? MUST-WATCH RACE: Gr8 Eight Series

TOUGH TEARS ? WEBLEC ACE ? NOT HAPPENING ? ARATUZA BALE

? The Meadows ? Race 8 ? ? 600m 8:57pm

Form ? https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/565711094/race/8

The Watchdog says ? : High class line-up and it appears to be an incredibly open race. WEBLEC ACE (3) must always be respected in races of this calibre. He can lead or come from off the pace and he has class on his side. TOUGH TEARS (1) has probably been a little disappointing since qualifying for the Group 1 Melbourne Cup Final, however he showed a return to form here last week and should appreciate the rise in distance. NOT HAPPENING (7) is the interesting runner – he got a little tired in the closing stages over the longer journey at Sandown last time and he is better suited to this journey. He would prefer a rails draw, but he has proven to be extremely versatile throughout his career and he just needs an ounce of luck. BOUNCE BACK (2) and ARATUZA BALE (8) probably round out the chances. Both are racing with confidence at present, but they both need a few things to go their way at the first bend.

Selections:  3 – 1 – 7 – 8

The Watchdog says
? : We’re taking on a few favourites tonight. ZIPPING RAFFERTY (7) is a big risk in Race 2, so we have gone wide in that event. RIDGE (5) is a star prospect, but he may get crowded in Race 3, so we have gone with a few speed runners and a couple of run-on types. MR. FIX IT (1) should be winning Race 6, however CARRY ON STAR (4) is flying at present, and she will settle on the speed and CHRISTO BALE (7) may be giving them too much of a head start. TOUGH TEARS (1) and WEBLEC ACE (3) are expected to dominate Race 8, however we have included quick beginner ZIPPING TICKET (4) and run-on type NOT HAPPENING (7).

Multi price: $3.03

? $3 Win – ASTON GWEN
? The Meadows ? Race 4 ? Box 3 ? 600m ⏱ 7:38pm
TAB fixed odds: $2.50 Win
Form
?  https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/565711094/race/4

The Watchdog says ? : She is all class and one of the most reliable beginners in work. She was beaten by CARRY ON LIAM (4) last week, however she is drawn on his inside tonight so she should be able to hold him at the bend and is awfully hard to get past when on the arm. There is not a lot of depth in this event, so the $2.30 appears to be value.

? $2 Win – KASEMI
?
$1.50 Win – ALL INN DUNGEE
? The Meadows ? Race 11 ? Boxes 3 & 8 ? 525m ⏱ 10:05pm
TAB fixed odds: $3.50 Win (Kasemi)
TAB fixed odds: $6 Win (All Inn Dungee)
Form
?  https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/565711094/race/11

The Watchdog says ? : I am expecting the inside two to hold the lead and if that eventuates, KASEMI (3) should be able to settle in a stalking position and will be very strong in the run home. ALL INN DUNGEE (8) is our second investment in the race. He always relies on a little bit of luck, but he does like to stay wide in his races, and he will really power to the line late. If either runner can gain a clear passage they should get the cash.
