Daily Mail: ‘Magic Mick’ eyes Healesville Cup

‘Straight track fever’ has hit Healesville during its Festival of Racing and even though today is a standard fixture, it has a carnival flavour.

The three-way tussle between G2 Healesville Cup aspirants Fernando Mick (10 from 36) v Blackpool Astro (10 from 55 – 19.20sec PB) v He’s An Ace (18 from 73 – 19.23sec PB) should be a sensational straight track showdown!

Fernando Mick (2nd – G1 Maturity Classic) makes his Healesville debut, while Blackpool Astro (Super Sprint finalist) and He’s An Ace (2nd – Christmas Cup) are ‘part of the furniture’ at Healesville.

Two former interstate fliers – ex-Qld Go Forward Tink (6 from 12 – won past 4) and ex-NSW Aston Galahad (6 from 10 – 5 of past 7) – make their debuts down south and increase this meeting’s X-factor, along with G1 Sapphire Crown finalist Persian Goddess (11 from 30).

Young Yinnar South trainer Ben Joske puts the ‘lead and collar’ on Persian Goddess and has now acquired Aston Galahad who ‘rides’ into Victoria with a big reputation.

? MUST-WATCH RACE: Trials Every Wednesday Free For All

FERNANDO MICK ? BLACKPOOL ASTRO ? HE’S AN ACE

? Healesville ? Race 9 ? 350m 1:27pm

Form ? https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/666538518/race/9

The Watchdog says ?: After missing out on victory by the smallest of margins in the inaugural running of The Arrow yesterday, the Geall kennel returns to Healesville with another star chaser in FERNANDO MICK (2). He was recently placed in the Group 1 Maturity Classic final and is having his first look at the track in readiness for the upcoming rich Healesville Cup series. His box manners can be a little hit or miss at times, but he does possess one of the best turns of speed in the game and should be suited to straight track racing. With limited early pace drawn inside and the vacant draw on his outside, he should get plenty of room to balance up and assume control after box rise. And he should press the 19sec barrier if the track is in good condition. BLACKPOOL ASTRO (7) is a track specialist and although he would have preferred a rails draw, he looks the obvious danger. With an ounce of luck early, he should push up into second spot after 100m or so and test the favourite for most of the journey. YEAH EASY (1) is an interesting runner; he is better suited to a longer journey but has drawn to get all the breaks early and won here previously in a solid 19.50sec. I don’t think he can win the event, but a top three finish looks to be on the cards. HE’S AN ACE (8) rounds out the big guns; he is probably a few lengths off his best at present, but the draw should help, and he can sneak into a place.

? THE WATCHDOG’S $10 INVESTMENT ?
? Monday 30 August

? $2 Multi

First ?: Win – NEIRBO
? Healesville ? Race 1 ? Box 1 ? 300m ⏱ 11:00am
TAB fixed odds: $1.55 Win
Form ? https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/666538518/race/1

Second ?: Win – LOUIS THE LEGEND
? Healesville ? Race 7 ? Box 1 ? 300m ⏱ 12:50pm
TAB fixed odds: $1.80 Win
Form
? https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/666538518/race/7

Third ?: Place – NICE AND EASY
? Healesville ? Race 10 ? Box 2 ? 350m ⏱ 1:44pm
TAB fixed odds: $1.75 Place (top two finish required)
Form ? https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/666538518/race/10

The Watchdog says ? : NEIRBO (1) was impressive on debut and is drawn to lead throughout. LOUIS THE LEGEND (1) loves this track and will appreciate the slight drop in class. NICE AND EASY (2) is suited by the smaller line-up and should press the favourite PERSIAN GODDESS (5) throughout, so a top two finish looks likely.

Multi price:
$4.88

? $1 Win – TED DO
? Healesville ? Race 5 ? Box 6 ? 350m ⏱ 12:17pm
TAB fixed odds: $6 Win
Form
? https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/666538518/race/5

The Watchdog says ? : His recent form doesn’t read well, but he’s suited by the wide draw and is a different chaser when he can get into the clear. There are a couple of handy types in this event, but he’s just as talented and appears to be some value.

? $1 Win – GREYSYND SHOCK
? $2 Win – GYPSY PLAY
? Healesville ? Race 6 ? Boxes 6 & 8? 350m ⏱ 12:35pm
TAB fixed odds: $10 Win (Greysynd Shock)
TAB fixed odds: $4.20 Win (Gypsy Play)
Form
? https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/666538518/race/6

The Watchdog says ? : GO FORWARD TINK (2) comes here with strong straight track form in Qld and is going to have plenty of support. However, with a desperate wide runner drawn inside, she isn’t going to have things her own way. GYPSY PLAY (8) and GREYSYND SHOCK (6) both possess good early speed and with the inside division expected to bunch up, they may steal a break in the middle stages and then battle out the finish.

? $1 Trifecta – 2 / 1,7 / 1,7 (50%)
? Healesville ? Race 9 ? 350m ⏱ 1:27pm ***Must Watch Race***
Form ? https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/666538518/race/9

The Watchdog says ? : FERNANDO MICK (2) is jet propelled and should win with ease. YEAH EASY (1) and BLACKPOOL ASTRO (7) are both powerful types and should tussle for the minor money.

? $1 Quaddie – 1.33% (75 combinations)
? Ballarat ? Races 5 – 8 ⏱ 4:07pm
Form ? https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/666538514/race/5

?: 4,5,6
? ?: 2
? ? ?: 1,3,4,5,8
? ? ? ?: 3,4,5,7,8

The Watchdog says ?: Very open quaddie at Ballarat, so we’ve gone wide in three of the legs in the hope of securing some value. MR. BUDDY LEE (2) in the second leg is our anchor. He’s been racing well in stronger company of late and should appreciate the rise in distance. With CHLOE EXOTIC (1) expected to hold a prominent spot early, he should get a nice run through mid-race and get every chance to score.

? $1 Each Way – LOCH
? Ballarat ? Race 7 ? Box 8? 450m ⏱ 4:49pm
TAB fixed odds: $10 Win
TAB fixed odds: $2.30 Place
Form
? https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/666538514/race/7

The Watchdog says ? : Her form doesn’t read well, but she’s always had plenty of talent and likes to scout wide in her races. She’s won one of two (50%) from this draw and can show slick early speed when in the clear. We will need a few things to go our way, but she represents value and won’t get a better chance to return to the winner’s list.
