Tips on Great Chase semis night at The Meadows

Tonight’s card at The Meadows is headlined by semi-finals of the Great Chase – a series restricted to Victorian bred greyhounds with 1-5 wins and it’s been one to produce some stars of the sport, none bigger than the great Simon Told Helen.

They span across races 5 to 8 with the top two from each to progress to next Saturday’s Group 3 final. The quality is strong which means we’re highly likely to get a belting final.

Aside from that, we see gun young sprinter Canya Talk Now in Race 3 and 600m track record holder Caco Magic in Race 4.

BEST
Race 9, Paw Stella (4)
For a greyhound of her ability her recent form is average, though she’s been in better races than this one. There’s not one asset she has that stands out compared to the rest, I just think her best is better than the rest.

NEXT BEST
Race 2, Cousin Sal (3)
She’s helped greatly by the scratching of Kiwi Evoca. Cousin Sal should go forward in this race with Paw Xhani who is inferior late in the race. Pending he gets the start right, which I think he will, he can easily break 30 seconds over The Meadows’ 525m and in this field makes him clearly the one to beat.

VALUE
Race 11, Dr. Fanatical (7)
He doesn’t have much early speed but this is a race where the early pressure is going to be rock bottom. Petali will be going forward early but I think Dr. Fanatical might be on his hammer mid-way through the race, if he is then he’s definitely going to finish better than the favourite.

ANOTHER VALUE
Race 6, Surge (5)
She’s not the most talented in the race, Mepunga Turbo is, but Surge has more early speed and should lead this. She wouldn’t want Turbo camping on her tail but given her likelihood of leading she looks to be a worth a throw at the stumps as a value play.

WORTH THE RISK/TAKE ON
Race 5, Star Note (1)
This one is risky but I’m happy to roll with it. He’s the favourite and fastest dog in the race, but has a decent chance of finding himself in a pickle. By and large he has average early pace and the dogs outside of him will be pouring the pressure on. It could be tricky and at odds on I think it’s under the odds.
