Daily Mail: Will ‘Ja’ rule at Sandown Park?

Premier Racing at Sandown Park features dual G1 winner Jarick Bale against G3 winner Victa Grosso (won his last five), the in-form Lektra Rhino and G3 runner-up Plan Ahead (won three of last four) in the second heat of the G2 McKenna Memorial.

Group winners Knicks Bale and Stout Monelli face G3 finalist Rohan Bale, G3 runner-up Riccarton Rick and G1 runner-up Aston Ulysses in the first heat of the G2 McKenna Memorial.

Dual G1 placegetter Mepunga Warrior headlines the third heat of the G2 McKenna Memorial, but G3 finalist Ariarne Bale and Group winners Hill Top Jack and Mallee Magic cannot be taken lightly.

Group winners Compliance and Yozo Bale, plus G1 finalists Xavien Bale and Nikoli Bale and G2 placegetter Loxton Bale, are contesting the Great Eight event over 515 metres.

The Watchdog says
? : ROHAN BALE (3) is back to his ideal distance range, and he should get a nice run through behind the inside two runners. MEPUNGA WARRIOR (2) is a beast, and he is capable of leading or coming from off the pace in his races. MOTH ROCKS (1) is expected to hold the lead and he is very hard to get past when in the clear, so a top-three finish looks likely. CENTER (1) goes well from this draw, and he is very strong in the run home, so he should be able to take advantage of a couple of gaps mid-race and he can hit the scoreboard.

? Must Watch Race ?

Second heat of Group 2 McKenna Memorial

? Sandown Park ? Race 6
? Box 8 ? 595m ⏱ 7:58pm

TAB fixed odds: $3.10 Win

The Watchdog says ?: JARICK BALE (8) is a genuine superstar and he has a tremendous record over this track/distance. The box draw is a slight concern, but there is plenty of pace inside and both PLAN AHEAD (6) and SPANISH MISS (7) are keen railers, so he should get plenty of room to balance up and put himself into the mix.

‘Must Watch Race’ Preview ?:

The best middle-distance chaser right now is JARICK BALE (8) and the dual Group 1 winner with a scorching 33.77sec PB here is expected to figure prominently. The draw is a slight concern on a bend start; however, he has handled this alley previously and with two keen railers drawn underneath, he should get a nice cart across initially. VICTA GROSSO (2) is a star SA chaser who has won five-in-a-row with the latest being here on Sunday in a solid 34.45sec. He will have to trim the time a little to be a factor here, however it was his first look at the track, so improvement is expected. PROPELLED (3) is the interesting runner. He is making his middle-distance debut but the manner in which he hit the line in his breathtaking 25.62sec Warragul win gives the indication that this journey will suit.

The Watchdog’s selections: 8 – 1 – 3 – 4

? $3 Win – MOTH ROCKS
? Sandown Park ? Race 11 ? Box 1 ? 515m ⏱ 9:53pm
TAB fixed odds: $4.80 Win
Form ? https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/666538749/race/11

The Watchdog says
? : MOTH ROCKS (1) has had little luck in his past three and prior to that he did carve out some sizzling provincial wins. He is armed with slick early speed, so he should be able to hold the lead at the bend and he is very strong in the run home, so he will give a great sight at odds.
