A ‘Great’ bet

Young Anakie husband-and-wife team Correy, 28, and Samantha Grenfell, 32 have established a strong following with the 18-35yrs punting demographic.

And their devotees will have wallets lined – make that betting apps open – when ‘Team Grenfell’ lines up with a quality quintet in a $22,000 Great 8 (515m) in Premier Racing at Sandown Park on Thursday night.

Correy trains Yozo Bale (Box 4) and Loxton Bale (Box 7) while Samantha prepares Xavien Bale (Box 1), Usman Bale (Box 5) and Nikoli Bale (Box 8).

And when it comes to wagering, there’s nothing better than the ‘inside oil’.

“He’s drawn the ‘car park’ but is flying… He’s our best chance.”

So, here’s Correy Grenfell’s take on their ‘fab five’ – all vying for a $15,000 first prize in Race 8, 8.43pm.

Xavien Bale
Starts: 72 (17-16-7)
Trk/Dst: 16 (4-2-3)
Sandown Park PB: 29.22sec
“He loves Sandown and is well drawn… He’s run near 29.20sec around 4-5 times… And the ‘red’ (Box 1) brings him right into the race.”

Yozo Bale
Starts: 100 (32-29-6)
Trk/Dst: 19 (6-2-2)
Sandown Park PB: 29.28sec
“He’s an old-timer with plenty of life still in those ageing legs… He makes his own luck… He’s more than capable but will need to lead to win.”

Usman Bale
Starts: 52 (13-6-8)
Trk/Dst: 17 (2-2-3)
Sandown Park PB: 29.47sec
“He’s been racing a little bit off his best… Ability wise, he’s right up there… However, the ‘yellow’ (Box 5) is a concern considering the early pace inside.”

Loxton Bale
Starts: 41 (11-4-8)
Trk/Dst: 14 (4-1-2)
Sandown Park PB: 29.27sec
“She’s got high speed… But she’ll go ‘hard left’ out of the ‘black’ (Box 7)… She’ll ‘drag’ Nikoli Bale into the race.”

Nikoli Bale
Starts: 70 (16-14-15)
Trk/Dst: 21 (4-4-4)
Sandown Park PB: 29.25sec
“He’s drawn the ‘car park’ but is flying, and Loxton Bale could make the race for him… He’s our best chance… And he was a best-of-night winner (29.32sec) here last week.”

‘Team Grenfell’ are also ‘great’ proponents for the Great 8 concept.

“It’s a real incentive and a credit to GRV,” Correy said. “We’ve got a few that are not good travellers interstate, so it’s also great to have excellent prizemoney to keep them in Victoria.”

WATCH: NIKOLI BALE (B2) clocks a smart 29.32sec (Best) win at Sandown Park last week.
