Daily Mail: ‘Velvet’ too smooth at The Meadows?

Premier Racing at The Meadows tonight is highlighted by the appearance of Pink Diamond Champion Distance winner Aston Velvet in the Great Eight event over 730 metres.

The G1 Sandown Cup placegetter will face strong opposition from kennelmate and G1 Sandown Cup finalist Golden Quest, G1 Hume Cup winner Knicks Bale and dual G3 winner Hank The Hustler.

Pink Diamond finalist Manila Dusk v Little Tiger v Spanish Miss v Runway winner Good To Go and Daph’s Zac v G1 finalist Fernando’s Quest v Shima Pearl v dual G3 finalist Quinlan Bale v G2 winner Jax Bale should be extremely competitive races.

G3 runner-up Plan Ahead and the promising Kelsey Bale are both expected to prevail.

The Watchdog says
? : FOLK SLAYER (1) has the inside draw, and she is drawn to settle a little closer than normal and she will be very strong in the run to the line. ROCKABYE BEAR (6) has panels on these talent wise and he will appreciate the empty draw inside. ARMY’S REMY (8) made a great return to the track here on Tuesday and she is drawn to get all the breaks.

First
?:
Win – DEWANA FERNANDO
? Warragul ? Race 4 ? Box 1 ? 460m ⏱ 5:49pm
TAB fixed odds: $1.70 Win

TAB fixed odds: $1.75 Place
Form ? https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/666538732/race/6

The Watchdog says
? : DEWANA FERNANDO (1) is a serious up-and-comer and with vacant draws on either side, he should get every chance to balance up and assume control at the bend. SHAKA BIG TONKS (6) has turned in some big performances of late and he is ideally drawn out wide. With a clear passage early, he should be able to run home into some minor money.

Multi price: $2.97

? $3 Place – ASTON PABLO

? Must Watch Race ?

Great 8 Event

? The Meadows ? Race 8
? Box 1 ? 730m ⏱ 8:58pm

TAB fixed odds: $2.50 Place

The Watchdog says ?: I didn’t have Pink Diamond Rookie Distance winner ASTON PABLO (1) in my original top four as I believe there are better winning chances. However from the inside draw, he should be able to balance up midfield and he will be strong in the run home, so he should be able to sneak home into a top-three spot.

‘Must Watch Race’ Preview ?:

The Pink Diamond Champion Distance winner ASTON VELVET (2) looks poised to score again. There isn’t a lot of pace drawn on either side tonight, so a clean getaway should see her settle in the top two or three and she can continue on her winning ways. HANK THE HUSTLER (8) has a top record here and he looks the likely danger. He has handled this draw well in the past and he is armed with tremendous mid-race pace. KNICKS BALE (7) is a Group 1 winner, and she is one of the most versatile chasers in the game. She has the ability to lead or come from off the pace in her races and she just needs to find the rail without too much trouble. ASTON PABLO (1) has turned in some handy performances at Sandown Park over this distance range and a clear run early can see him make an impact.
