Dogs to follow

Form expert Dale Code has picked out a selection of greyhounds to follow from around Victoria. You may even want to add them to your Blackbook account.

STRIKER
Breeding: Nov ’19 Mepunga Blazer x Gold Vein
Trainer: Daryl Holmes, Blind Bight
Record: 4 starts 2-1-1

Dale says: I have absolutely fallen in love with Striker after just four starts. He contested a heat and semi-final of the Pink Diamond Maiden Sprinter at Warragul recently where he caught the eye with two brilliant placings. He backed up from those runs with a slashing 25.81sec all-the-way win there and then his last start effort to score after finding trouble was even better. Races with a maturity beyond his years and his will to win is top shelf. Combine that with good box manners, handy early speed and a powerful finish, Striker has the recipe to become a potential star.

Best traits: Early speed and stamina, tenacious chaser
Ideal draw: Box 1
Ideal distance: 500m

“Striker has the recipe to become a potential star.”

WATCH: STRIKER (6) produced an almighty effort after suffering early interference to secure back-to-back victories in 26.02 seconds at Warragul (460m) on June 21.     Results

WINNINGTON BALE
Breeding: Jun ‘20 Feral Franky x Houston Bale
Trainer: Rebecca Gibbons, Avalon
Record: 20 starts 5-1-5

Dale says: Winnington Bale made the Group 2 Geelong Gold Cup Final at just his 12th race start. He has similar attributes to litter brothers Rohan Bale and Xinmin Bale in that he is a tenacious keen railer that can run all day. Add plenty of talent to that list and you have an artillery that should see Winnington Bale have a successful racing career.

Best traits: Can run all day, keen railer
Ideal draw: Box 1
Ideal distance: 550m-600m

“Winnington Bale has similar attributes to litter brothers Rohan Bale and Xinmin Bale in that he is a tenacious keen railer that can run all day.”

WATCH: WINNINGTON BALE (6) managed to overturn a huge deficit to just prevail in a four-way photo for victory in 29.62 seconds at Sandown Park (515m) on June 9.     Results

DEWANA SCOTCH
Breeding: Nov ’20 Fernando Bale x Dewana Dimie
Trainer: Matthew Dewan, Carrum Downs
Record: 2 starts 0-0-1

Dale says: Dewana Scotch led for a long way after clocking an elite first split sectional in a heat of the Pink Diamond Maiden Sprinter at Warragul on debut before finishing a close third in fast time. He had no luck in the semi-final the next start when vying for the early lead. With natural improvement and early speed to burn, Dewana Scotch should be breaking his maiden status sooner rather than later and he can quickly work his way through the grades and became a well-performed sprinter.

Best traits: Good box speed, scope for improvement
Ideal draw: Box 1
Ideal distance: 450m

“Dewana Scotch should be breaking his maiden status sooner rather than later.”

WATCH: DEWANA SCOTCH (3) showed terrific early speed before eventually finishing third in a winning time of 25.81 seconds at Warragul (460m) on June 2.     Results
