Pink Diamond Finals: Armchair Guide

The 2022 GRV Vic Bred Pink Diamond series will culminate in a bumper finals night at Ballarat on Friday 17 June.

Open exclusively to greyhounds bred in Victoria, the Pink Diamond series boasts $1.175 million in prizemoney and breeders bonuses, up from $870,000 in its inaugural year in 2021.

Friday night’s card will be made up of 12 feature finals – all carrying Group Listed status – following a combination of heats and semi-finals run earlier this month at Warragul, Shepparton, Bendigo and Geelong.

The Pink Diamond series caters for greyhounds of various grades and abilities over a range of distances including maiden, veteran, female-only (Princess), age-restricted (Rookie) and rank limit (Challenger) events.

Much of Friday night’s focus will centre on the three ‘Champion’ events, which are all open-class races boasting a meeting-high $126,500 in prizemoney and breeders bonuses.

The in-form Kepal (won six straight and 19 from 30 overall) will take some stopping in the Champion Short Course Final (390m) while 2021 Group 3 Speed Star 600m winner Collinda Patty is among the headline acts in the Champion Distance Final (660m).

Later in the night, the Champion Sprinter Final (450m) is arguably the biggest highlight on the card with Panama Canal (12 from 14) and Ferdinand Boy (four Group 2 country cups) set to renew acquaintances after the latter ended the former’s remarkable winning streak of 12 in a riveting heat at Shepparton last Thursday night.

The first of 12 finals gets underway at 6.57pm on Friday.
