Daily Mail: Winning pats for ‘Paddy’ at Sandown Park?

The Watchdog has tipped G3 Speed Star 525m runner Paddy Wants Pats to win tonight’s $15,000 to-the-winner Group Listed Australian Sprint.

Despite the scratching of G2 Warragul Cup placegetter Hamillson, the field includes Geelong Derby winner Nikoli Bale, the in-form Brother Bearing and dual G2 winner Yozo Bale.

G1 Sale Cup winner Jarick Bale faces Invictus Rising and G1 Hume Cup runner-up Mepunga Warrior in the $15,000 to-the-winner Group Listed Maidment Memorial.

Exciting chasers Soda Fizz, Just Like Mick and Levitation clash in a 515m Restricted Win final, while G2 Geelong Gold Cup winner Weblec Jet stands out in a Mixed 4/5 595m race.

There’s also the $7,500 to-the-winner Warrnambool Derby final this evening.

The Watchdog says
? : SHALL SHE CHARM (1) has turned in some fantastic performances of late and she is drawn to get the gun run throughout. WEBLEC JET (2) is expected to fire to the early lead, however he will push wide through the bend and that should give her plenty of cover in the first 200m or so. Outside of the favourite, there isn’t a lot of depth in this event, so she should be able to hit the scoreboard.

? $2 Win – PADDY WANTS PATS

? Must Watch Race ?

Group Listed Australian Sprint

? Sandown Park ? Race 8
? Box 5 ? 515m ⏱ 9:28pm

TAB fixed odds: $3.20 Win

The Watchdog says ?: PADDY WANTS PATS (5) was desperately unlucky here last Thursday night and with the scratching of HAMILLSON (1), he should be able to cross early and get a cheap lead. He is capable of carving out serious time when leading and this really does look to be his race.

‘Must Watch Race’ Preview ?:

PADDY WANTS PATS (5) was desperately unlucky here last Thursday night and with the scratching of HAMILLSON (1), he should get every chance to make amends. He had to work hard mid race and he was about to assume control before he was turned sideways, so with HAMILLSON out, he should find it a little easier to get across. NIKOLI BALE (3) can be hit-or-miss early but he has the motor to win a race like this and if he can enter the first bend in the top three, he will make his presence felt. CARRY ON STAR (2) looks to be the value. She has turned in some handy performances since resuming and she has been beginning well, so with another good getaway, she should be in the firing line for most of the journey. BROTHER BEARING (4) is airborne, but he can be risky at box rise and he may get crowded.

The Watchdog says
? : WESTERN BLAZER (1) has turned in some big performances of late and he is drawn to hold the early lead. He is getting stronger all the time and he should prove too classy in the run home. GEORGE’S FANCY (8) can be hard to follow, however she has a big engine and will get plenty of room in the initial stages, so she should give a sight at odds. Just in case a few things don’t go her way, we have also taken her to place in the same multi for extra units below.
