Daily Mail: A Phoenix champion will rise

The world’s only slot race for greyhounds is taking place at The Meadows tonight with the inaugural edition of the $1.145 million TAB Phoenix.

G1 Melbourne Cup champion Koblenz is aiming to break the Australian greyhound racing prizemoney record, while G1 Topgun winner Aston Rupee is looking to cement his reputation as the world’s fastest greyhound.

G2 Flying Amy Classic winner Jungle Deuce, impressive youngster Wow She’s Fast and 29.17sec Sandown Park winner True Collinda are also strong chances.

The Watchdog says
? : EAT MY DUST (8) is a powerful type and he finds himself in a race with plenty of early speed and several runners who are suspect over this journey. If he can avoid bother at the first bend, he should head to the back in the top five and he will charge to the line, so a top-three finish looks likely. LALA KIWI (1) versus MUSIC EVENT (3) is such a great match-up, however ‘Kiwi’ is absolutely airborne at present. Her run in the Group 1 Melbourne Cup final was just ridiculous and she followed that up with a dynamic 29.84sec win here last Saturday night. She lost a length in the initial stages, so the run was a sub 29.80sec performance and a repeat of that can see her win this.

? The Meadows ? Race 8

TAB fixed odds: $3.10 Win

The Watchdog says ?: Very intriguing race, however I’m banking on KOBLENZ (8) doing what he does best, and that is jump and run. He is one of the best beginners in the game and with the inside and middle division expected to bunch through the bend, he could be off and gone as they head to the back.

‘Must Watch Race’ Preview ?:

The TAB Phoenix is the race we have all been waiting for and Group 1 Melbourne Cup champion KOBLENZ (8) is looking to become the record stakes earner with victory tonight. There isn’t a lot of early pace drawn inside, so he should be able to cross at the bend and he will give them something to catch. Megastar ASTON RUPEE (5) hasn’t drawn favourably and is likely to find early bother. If he can head to the back within four or five lengths of the leader, he could give this a shake. JUNGLE DEUCE (2) is sort of the forgotten greyhound. I reckon he has a 29.60sec type of engine around The Meadows and he finally has a good draw in Victoria. He should clear BILLY CREEK (1) early and I’m expecting a big performance.

The Watchdog says
? : He is racing with extreme confidence at present, and he is suitably drawn out wide. He does his best work in the closing stages, however with a couple of keen railers drawn in six and seven, he should get a nice run into the first bend, and he could head to the back in the top four and then hit the scoreboard.
