Dogs to follow

Form expert Dale Code has picked out a selection of greyhounds to follow from around Victoria. You may even want to add them to your Blackbook account.

ASTON SHINE
Breeding: Jan ’19 Fernando Bale x Fantastic Dotty
Trainer: Graeme Jose, Catani
Record: 50 starts 13-6-6

Dale says:
“Has always been a more than handy city sprinter but after going over the replays of his recent runs he isn’t far off matching it with the best sprinters in the state, which was evident in his gallant fourth placing in a hot line up in the Group 2 Bendigo Cup final on Saturday night. Appears to be finishing off his races a lot stronger than he was previously and, with an ability to combine that improved strength with fast early sectionals, Aston Shine is primed to be a chance in any race he contests.”

Best traits:
Quite versatile, quick early, getting stronger
Ideal draw: Box 1
Ideal distance: 450-500m

MOBILE LEGEND
Breeding: Dec ‘19 Aston Dee Bee x Weeping Lass
Trainer: Daryl Brennan, Ross Creek
Record: 3 starts 2-0-1

Dale says:
“Won a heat and final of the Vic Bred Maiden Series at Bendigo in almost carbon copy fashion, exploding out of the traps both times and clocking a red hot 6.46sec first sectional, on his way to running slick overall times of 27.86sec and 27.89sec respectively. At just 22 months of age and under the guidance of top trainer Daryl Brennan, it shouldn’t be too long before we see this big and powerful black chaser making an impression around the city tracks.”

Best traits:
Explosive early speed
Ideal draw:
Box 1 – yet has the box speed to overcome any draw
Ideal distance:
500m

EVEN KEATS
Breeding: Dec ’18 Aston Dee Bee x Noaki Lynx
Trainer: John Boreland, Giffard West
Record: 29 starts 4-6-5

Dale says:
“After more than three months off the racing scene, Even Keats has caught the eye in his two runs back from a spell. Although unplaced in both of those performances, he struck trouble shortly after the start each time and was forced to cover extra ground before finishing in strong fashion in what were two very tough Grade 5 races. With a drop in class imminent, if he gets an ounce of luck in running, he can return to the winners list sooner rather than later.”

Best traits:
Can lead or come off the speed to win his races
Ideal draw:
Box 8 on the provincial circuit, box 1 on the city circuit
Ideal distance:
460m-500m

“With a drop in class imminent, if Even Keats gets an ounce of luck in running, he can return to the winners list sooner rather than later.”
