Dogs to follow

Form expert Dale Code has picked out a selection of greyhounds to follow from around Victoria. You may even want to add them to your Blackbook account.

BOSTON GARDEN
Breeding: Nov ’19 High Earner x Phantom Mime
Trainer: Jeffrey Britton, Anakie
Record: 7 starts 3-3-0

Dale says:
“Burst on to the scene with a commanding all the way 25.35sec win at Ballarat on debut in a heat of the Vic Breeder’s Maiden series. Was far from disgraced when runner up in the final the next week behind potential superstar Revolution. Since then he has made the transition to the city tracks with mixed results, however his last two runs have been super, and he is getting stronger with each race. Will perform best off an inside draw and, with his explosive speed soon after box rise and a real appetite for racing, I believe he can go to another level.”

Best traits:
Keen chaser, explosive speed soon after box rise
Ideal draw: Box 1 (desperate for the rail)
Ideal distance: 450-500m

WOW SHE’S FAST
Breeding: Feb ‘20 My Bro Fabio x Fair Of Face
Trainer: Jacqueline Greenough, Pearcedale
Record: 2 starts 2-0-0

Dale says:
“Made headlines when winning at Sandown Park on debut by an astonishing 27.5 lengths, running near record early splits – including 5.00sec to the first peg – on the way to a mind-blowing 29.09sec Best of Day victory. Not surprisingly, went around at unbackable odds in the final last Thursday and scored another commanding win in 29.39sec (Best) on a rain affected track. Based on her first two starts, she could be the most exciting greyhound I have seen. At just 20 months of age and boasting early speed that mirrors the great Fernando Bale, all I can say is… wow she’s fast!”

Best traits:
Unrivalled early speed
Ideal draw: Yet to determine (so fast early it doesn’t matter yet)
Ideal distance: 500m

“Boasting early speed that mirrors the great Fernando Bale, Wow She’s Fast could be the most exciting greyhound I have seen.”

DUNDEE EMBER
Breeding: Nov ’18 Dundee Osprey x Dundee Calypso
Trainer: Geoffrey Scott-Smith, Pakenham South
Record: 33 starts 4-9-6

Dale says:
“Has won just one of her past 18 starts but her form is very misleading. Her last win (on 22 August) was from her ideal draw (Box 1), but since then, if you go through her form, she has drawn poorly and hasn’t been too far away in some very strong races. A drop in class seems eminent and, if she can draw an inside box, I’m expecting her to return to the winner’s list sooner rather than later.”

Best traits:
Keen railer and chaser
Ideal draw: Box 1
Ideal distance: 550m-600m

“Dundee Ember’s form is very misleading, and I’m expecting her to return to the winner’s list sooner rather than later if she can draw an inside box.”
