A Group-class field headlined by Ferdinand Boy (28 from 50 – 4 from 6 Box 2) is contesting the $10,000 to-the-winner Sale Sprint Championship final (440m) tonight.
The three-time G2 country cup champion was also triumphant over last year’s G3 TAB Great Chase winner Dr. Tucker (16 from 27) in The Horizon final (440m) at Sale in June.
Weblec Flare (3 from 4 Trk/Dst) v Rasputin (3 from 6) v Weblec Raider (3 from 9) highlight the first G3 TAB Great Chase heat to be run at Sandown Park, while Don’t Tell Bluey (3 from 6 Trk/Dst) should dominate the second heat.
At Healesville, Gleeson (19.07sec PB) v Rumour Is Fact (3 from 5 Trk/Dst) v Untested v G2 finalist Lots Of Chatter should be closely contested, Aston Latham is looking to secure his fourth-straight win, and Loves The Surf will appreciate not chasing potential star Koblenz, which occurred at Shepparton last Monday night.

👀 MUST-WATCH RACE: Yeates Printing Sale Sprint Championship Final
FERDINAND BOY 🆚 DR. TUCKER 🆚 SODA PRINCE 🆚 PERFECT COLOUR
📍 Sale 🏁 Race 8 📏 440m ⏱ 9:21pm
The Watchdog says 🎤: We see an elite line-up battle it out for the $10,000 first prize and superstar FERDINAND BOY (2) looks poised to add another feature to his already impressive CV. He missed the kick in his heat and was crowded in the initial stages, however he was able to barge his way through as they reached the first bend and from thereon, he did not look back when carving out a sizzling 24.73sec. This race is obviously loaded with early speed, so he cannot afford to miss the kick again, however I am expecting him to step well, and he should be able to hold the top through the bend. DR. TUCKER (4) was beaten in his return to the track last week, but he was far from disgraced when narrowly beaten in a scorching 24.61sec. That was his first race since July, so he will strip a lot fitter for that run, however he would have preferred to be drawn inside ‘Ferdinand.’ The two big guns have very similar early pace, so if they step evenly, ‘Tucker’ may not be able to cross in the initial stages and he may have to settle for the quinella spot. SWEET DEMI (1) could be the value runner in the event. She finally returned to her brilliant best with a top 24.75sec heat win and she has come up with the good draw tonight, so if they bunch through the bend, she may take advantage of a rails run and cause a boil over. SODA PRINCE (7) and PERFECT COLOUR (8) both deserve a mention. They have carved out some scintillating wins in recent weeks and if the inside division happen to make a mistake, one of them could assume control through the bend and they are hard to get past when in the clear.
Selections: 2 – 4 – 1 – 8
📢 THE WATCHDOG’S $10 INVESTMENT 📢
📅 Sunday 3 October
💰 $2 Multi
First 🦵: Win – LOVES THE SURF
📍 Healesville 🏁 Race 9 🔲 Box 1 📏 350m ⏱ 1:22pm
TAB fixed odds: $2.60 Win
Form 👉 https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/666539040/race/9
Second 🦵: Win – WEBLEC FLARE
📍 Sandown Park 🏁 Race 6 🔲 Box 1 📏 515m ⏱ 3:39pm
TAB fixed odds: $2.15 Win
Form 👉 https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/666539041/race/6
The Watchdog says 🎤 : LOVES THE SURF (1) was enormous behind Koblenz at Shepparton last time and she will find this event a lot easier. She has shown a lot of improvement in recent months, and she is drawn to lead throughout today. WEBLEC FLARE (1) continues to get better with every run, and he is drawn to take a power of beating today. His kennelmate WEBLEC RAIDER (8) is the obvious danger, however with the help of the inside draw, I think he can hold him out at the bend and that may be the difference.
Multi price: $5.59
💰 $2 Trifecta – 8 / 4 / 1,2 (100%)
📍 Sandown Park 🏁 Race 4 📏 595m ⏱ 3:04pm
Form 👉 https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/666539041/race/4
The Watchdog says 🎤 : FERNANDO FRANK (8) is absolutely flying at present, and he should be leading throughout. WAR DRUM EXPRESS (4) sizzled in a trial at The Meadows, and he will appreciate the smaller line-up today, so he can fill the quinella spot. MEPUNGA SPARKLE (1) and BUSY TIME (2) should have a good battle for third.
💰 $4 Win – POSTMAN PICKETT
📍 Sandown Park 🏁 Race 5 🔲 Box 7 📏 515m ⏱ 3:19pm
TAB fixed odds: $2.25 Win
Form 👉 https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/666539041/race/5
The Watchdog says 🎤 : He was brilliant in his return to racing at Warrnambool two runs back and he looks very well graded today. He pushed the exciting MEPUNGA MUSTANG to the limit when resuming and he powered to the line on that occasion, so the step up to 515m today should suit. He was a handy 29.92sec winner here in May and after exiting box four, he stayed middle to wide as they approached the first turn, so with limited pace drawn around him today, he should be able to balance up and hold his line in the run to the first bend.
💰 $2 Place – SWEET DEMI
📍 Sale 🏁 Race 8 🔲 Box 1 📏 440m ⏱ 9:21pm 👀 Must Watch Race 👀
TAB fixed odds: $3.60 Place
Form 👉 https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/666539039/race/8
The Watchdog says 🎤 : She finally returned to her brilliant best here last week with a gutsy 24.75sec heat win and she is drawn to get all the breaks tonight. She is taking on some elite talent, but we know she has a big motor when at her best and last Sunday night’s win was very encouraging. There is plenty of early pace on her outside but if she can hold a top four spot as they head into the bend, she will be strong late and that will allow her to make a big impact.
