Daily Mail: Ferdinand Boy set to star at Sale

After securing the $50,000 GRV bonus for winning three Group 2 country cups in a calendar year, Ferdinand Boy (27 from 49 – 24.59sec PB) is expected to show his class once again in the first heat of the Sale Sprint Championship (440m) tonight.

The Healesville Cup champion from a fortnight ago returns to Sale for the first time since winning The Horizon in June with Soda Prince (3 from 4 Trk/Dst) considered the biggest threat to Ferdinand Boy.

Pink Diamond winner Aussie Secret (29 from 55 – 6 from 9 Box 1) v Handsome Jack (4 of last 5) v Omega Dodge (won last 5) should provide a stirring battle in the second heat of the Sale Sprint Championship.

G3 winner Dr. Tucker (16 from 26 – 4 from 6 Box 5) has not raced since winning at Sandown Park over 515m on July 15, but he is expected to account for his rivals – including kennelmate Dr. Knuckles (3 of last 4) – in the third heat of the Sale Sprint Championship.

The Mixed 4/5 520m race featuring Omega Tyson (6 from 16 – 2 from 2 Box 1), G1 finalist Hill Top Jack (14 from 37) and 138-start veteran Run Baba Run promises to be a tight tussle.

Dr. Slats (3 from 5 – 24.59sec PB) and In The Spotlight (4 from 6) are predicted to bolster their respective records.

At Healesville, last-start winner Untested v Rumour Is Fact (3 from 4 Trk/Dst) v G2 finalist Daniel Avocado v Braemar Prince (13 from 32) should be a strong contest.

Group finalists Handsome Rhino (7 from 18) and Oriental Amber (24 from 50 – 16.42sec PB) are set for a terrific duel, while Sagacious (8 from 20) is eyeing her fourth-straight victory.

G3 600m Speed Star placegetter Zac’s Entity is easily the headline act at Sandown Park in his first 715m start, while Curator (29.30sec PB), last-start winner Jazzy Minter and Yohan Bale are all fancied to triumph.

The Watchdog says
?: FERDINAND BOY (2) goes back to work tonight after capturing the Group 2 Healesville Cup final and the $50,000 bonus for winning three country cups in a calendar year. He only has five opponents, however its quite a strong line-up, so he cannot afford to make any mistakes. There was a slight concern with GOLDEN SKYROCKET (1) drawn underneath, as she does like to move off the track soon after box rise, but with the scratching now, ‘Ferdinand’ essentially has the red draw if given a clear passage, a sub 24.50sec run could be on the cards. SODA PRINCE (8) has returned to racing in fine style and he is the obvious danger. He has won three-of-four (75 percent) over this track/distance and he owns a scorching 24.55sec PB. He has handled wide draws in the past, so he should be able to settle on the outside of the favourite and he will keep him honest for most of the journey. DR. MADISON (4) rounds out the genuine chances. She has been racing in scintillating fashion of late and she is capable of leading or coming from off the pace in her races, so if the two expected leaders happen to bump, she could be there to strike. It should be a thrilling series with three deep heats and fingers crossed the big guns can all advance to next week’s final.

The Watchdog says
? : COL COWBOY (2) has turned in some brilliant performances here of late and with the wide running APOLLO ONE (3) drawn on his outside, he should get plenty of cover in the initial stages and a top three finish looks likely. YOHAN BALE (2) is racing with confidence, and he should get a cheap lead today. He has proven he is extremely hard to get past when in the clear and this really looks to be his race.

The Watchdog says
? : ZAC’S ENTITY (4) is a potential staying megastar, and I am expecting him to gap them mid race and with most of the field likely to struggle in the closing stages, the strong MICK’S KIMMY (7) can run over the top late and fill second spot.

? $1 Win – DARNUM DIVA     ? Lucky Longshot ?

TAB fixed odds: $8.50 Win

The Watchdog says
? : She is still learning what it is all about, but she did record a sizzling 24.87sec Sale win and she gives the indication that this journey will suit. There are a couple of handy ones drawn inside, however she should be able to settle on their outside initially and she possesses more genuine mid race pace, so she could give them something to catch at nice odds.

? $3 Win – MAJOR CYCLONE
? Sandown Park ? Race 9 ? Box 4 ? 515m ⏱ 4:50pm
TAB fixed odds: $3 Win
Form ? https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/666538996/race/9

The Watchdog says
? : He has not had a lot of luck since his impressive maiden win up the straight, but the smaller line-up today will definitely suit, and he gets his chance to regain some confidence. His box manners are solid, and he possesses a good turn of foot, so he should be able to hold a top two spot through the corner and he may prove too classy in the run home.

? $1 Trifecta – 2 / 8 / 4 (100%)
? Sale ? Race 4 ? 440m ⏱ 6:47pm     ? Must Watch Race ?
Form ? https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/666538994/race/4

The Watchdog says
? : FERDINAND BOY (2) and SODA PRINCE (8) should have a great battle throughout and the champ will have the edge in the closing stages. DR. MADISON (4) should be able to find the rail early and she will not be too far behind them as they near the finish line.

? $1 Trifecta – 4 / 7 / 1,8 (50%)
? Sale ? Race 11 ? 440m ⏱ 9:06pm
Form ? https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/666538994/race/11

The Watchdog says
? : IN THE SPOTLIGHT (4) is a serious prospect and should be winning with ease. ASTON NINO (7) goes well around Sale, and he should be able to work home into the quinella spot, while COSMIC ROY (1) and WILLOW ASH (8) are both well drawn and can battle it out for third.
