Miss Envy Delivers in Rookie Rebel Triumph

Western Australian star Miss Envy stamped her authority on the middle-distance ranks after capturing the Group 1 Sportsbet Rookie Rebel (600m) at The Meadows on Saturday night.

The victory marked the third Group 1 triumph for the talented chaser.

Miss Envy claimed her third Group 1 triumph in a time of 34.24 seconds, in the end holding off Vista Weird and Valenzuela.

Prepared by WA trainer Steve and Krystal Shinners, Miss Envy had strong expectations on her pre-race after producing a sharp trial at The Meadows earlier in the week.

The daughter of Aston Dee Bee and Miss America had not been seen on the racetrack since late January, when she finished fifth in the Listed Maidment Memorial at Sandown Park, but the short break did little to halt her momentum.

“She has a heart the size of a lion and we are so proud of her,” trainer Steve Shinners said.

Miss Envy had spent the past month in Victoria, with respected trainers Kel and Jackie Greenough assisting with her preparation ahead of the Group 1 assignment.

“A huge thanks to Kel and Jackie Greenough who have looked after her for the past month – we love sharing this with them,” Shinners said.

The win came after a few hurdles in her preparation following her Sandown appearance, making the performance all the more satisfying for her connections.

“We had a few setbacks after the Sandown run but we are so proud to see her win her third Group race,” Shinners added.

Miss Envy is now set to return home to Western Australia where she will begin preparations for one of the state’s biggest prizes – the Group 1 Perth Cup.

“After that, hopefully the Sandgroper – we’ve had a few calls,” Shinners said.
