Van de Maat’s take on the Sportsbet Geelong Cup

The Sportsbet Geelong Cup shapes up to be a really interesting battle on Friday night.

In my opinion it’s a huge advantage to draw inside and have local track knowledge on the tight turning inside track at Geelong.

I think ‘The Mav’, Mav Reiko (2), gets the best chance he’ll get to lob a feature country cup win with a close to perfect box draw.

Perched up in box 2, he can leave the boxes quickly and try take the early command, or settle behind Eventuate (1) and try outpace her mid race. Another look at the track, the inside draw and decent map = it’s The Mav for me!

Eventuate (1) is a real up and coming talent with a great draw. She didn’t have the best of luck in the Launching Pad series and with the aid of the inside alley after a tough runner-up effort in her heat, she’s a big chance.

The rest of the chances are a little bit of a raffle. Clean air and a good momentum building run, close to the rail are the keys to success on the Geelong inside track.

My tips: Mav Reiko (2), Eventuate (1), Paw Fabian (3) and Paw Quinby (5)
