Electrify enters rare air in 715m demolition

Electrify announced himself as one of the sport’s most promising stayers last night, and probably the fastest.

It was his second crack over ‘700’ metres in town. He won by 13L and set the 11th fastest time ever over the 715m at Sandown Park. As James Van de Maat said in the call, “this is something special.”

The top 11 fastest ever looks like this – Here’s Tears (41.157), Miata (.170), Tornado Tears (.204), Rippin’ Sam (.251), Space Star (.264), Zipping Kansas (.273), Jarick Bale (.288), Tornado Tears (.297), Five Star (.318), Rippin’ Sam (.323) and Electrify (.325).

Jim also said “Electrify, running this like a deadset sprint.” His back split, about 534m into the race, was damn quick as well.

It was 30.21, which is a bit off the fastest of all time, but still in rare air. Like Wildfire holds the record at 29.96, followed by Here’s Tears (30.02) and Canya All Class (30.04).

He’ll now head to the country’s richest staying race, ‘The 715’, at The Gardens in New South Wales. The heats are on Friday April 24.

“The Sandown Cup was the ultimate aim. I thought The 715 might come too early, but that was probably dependent on how well he went last night and he answered that question,” said Greg Doyle, trainer of Electrify.

Very fast dogs running very fast times is to be expected. The biggest question is whether he can serve it up not only consistently, but against the likes of Without A Trace and Magpie Hector on the big stages like The 715 and the Sportsbet Sandown Cup.

Sportsbet Sandown Cup heats are on Thursday May 14, alongside heats of the Harrison-Dawson and Sapphire Crown. All finals will be run the following Friday.
