Healesville set for major infrastructure upgrades

Following the Sportsbet Emerald meeting on Sunday 17 March 2024, racing at Healesville will cease for a six-week period, whilst a number of important infrastructure projects take place.

GRV will oversee the installation of a new 300m start box locator, the IsoLynx greyhound tracking/camera system and the much-needed replacement of the track fence, the latter funded by GRV, the Club and the Victorian State Government.

The strong financial position of the Club will also allow for a number of other projects to be undertaken during the six-week shutdown. These will include:

  • Extension of the maintenance shed;
  • Re-asphalting of the internal road;
  • New front entrance gate;
  • Concreting and improved aesthetics around the maintenance area;
  • Creation of a concrete tractor turnaround between the 300m and 350m starts;
  • Track irrigation and drainage upgrades;
  • Kitchen upgrades;
  • Improved entrance and venue signage;
  • Civil works to remove open swale from the grassed patron area; and
  • General repairs around the kennel house, including addressing concrete lifting issues on various footpaths

The planned works are the result of extensive planning and discussions between the Club, GRV and the team at Melbourne Greyhounds (MGRA), who now oversee the management of the Healesville greyhound track following an amalgamation in 2023.

The Club, MGRA and GRV recognise that ceasing all racing and trialling activity for an extended period of time is not an ideal outcome for participants and apologise for the short-term negative impact it will cause.

Healesville Club Manager Peter Frost along with Track Manager Chris Woods will coordinate the works onsite and the Club’s maintenance team will be hard at work during the shutdown undertaking much of the minor works themselves, with support from the team at The Meadows.

Racing will resume at Healesville on Sunday 28 April and participants will encounter an all-new look and feel when they attend the venue for the first time following the break
