Upgrade to Sale

The upgrade to the Sale & District Greyhound Racing Club’s track is now complete with the club making a return to racing on 3 September.

The project, inclusive of new lighting irrigation and lure system, has been supported by the Victorian Government through the Victorian Racing Industry Fund (VRIF).

No significant changes were made to the existing shape of the track or its key features.

As a result of the improvements to the curvature and track dimensions, Sale now has new race distances of 435m, 510m & 640m.

ABOUT THE UPGRADE

The Sale and District Greyhound Racing Club was formed in 1935 and is traditionally Victoria’s fifth most frequently used racetrack. This upgrade has provided improved infrastructure and amenities supporting public safety and animal welfare and enhance the experience of racing for participants and patrons at the club.

UPGRADED FEATURES INCLUDE:

  • New lure rail, lure system and safety rail
  • Improvements to turn transitions
  • New outside fencing, finishing post and inside drainage system
  • Upgraded lighting to LED to improve the LUX levels to TV broadcast quality
  • New irrigation system to enable automated water treatment of the track
  • New fixed head-on cameras
  • New racing surface – utilising the current locally sourced sand

WHAT HAS CHANGED AND WHAT IS THE SAME?

  • Slight changes to track camber and turn transitions, to improve safety
  • New automatic irrigation
  • New and improved drainage
  • All new lighting on the grandstand, around the track, the starts and winning post
  • Refreshed timing system with new back straight split camer.
  • New automated Lure door on the Catching Pen gate
  • New Run Back gate
  • New fencing around the inside and outside of the track
  • New and refreshed padding and signage
  • Same starting shelters, with refreshed starting boxes
  • The Puppy Start for trialling dogs has changed location
  • New synthetic grass in front of the start boxes
  • Refreshed pavements and Parade area
  • The club continues using locally sourced Olsen sand

LOCAL TRAINER ‘HOOKED’ ON SALE

Gippsland trainer Charlie Galea has revealed his delight at the reopening of the new Sale track after landing the first winner on opening night.

TRIALLING AT SALE

Sale & District Greyhound Racing Club has recommenced trialling on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. All trial bookings to be made via FastTrack.
