Rooney’s crosshairs land on Ballarat

Nathan Rooney’s most recent hit out at Warragul last Tuesday was short lived due to the meeting being abandoned after Race 4, however it didn’t stop a successful night. His ‘next best’ Galloping Jimmy was the only one to step out, and after being backed in from $3.30 to $2, he won!

Ballarat is tonight’s assignment and as usual, Nathan’s specials are listed below. Given he didn’t fancy a value play, a second next best has been added. Hear Rooney’s race-by-race previews throughout the night on RSN.

Best – Race 6, THANK YOU TOMMY (1)

He looks ideally drawn here, exiting box 1 for the first time in his 23 start career. He should get cover from Orson Beauty (2) in the initial stages and maps to be able to hold the lead. Based on a good 25.92 seconds Geelong 460m win four runs back, he looks very well placed in Tier 3 company here to win again.

WON ($2.50 into $2.35)

Next best – Race 9, RON’S MISTAKE (2)

He was a good track and distance winner three runs back in 22.53 seconds from this draw. Has the speed to lead again and will receive plenty of cover from the speedy Pacific Princess (3) in the initial stages, which should allow him to roll to the top and be hard to pick up.

Next best – Race 8, SPARTAN LEGEND (8)

Comes up with his favourite draw here tonight (a win and four placings from five races out of box 8) and is back in Tier 3 company. Looks ideally placed to camp off a hot speed and charge down the outside late. He was a good 25.53 seconds place getter at this track and distance from this draw half a dozen runs back and a repeat performance will see him hard to beat.

WON ($4.40 into $3)
