The Stir Up – Horsham Cup and Sportsbet Emerald Edition

GRV’s Peter Quilty, Gerard Guthrie and Trent Langskaill provide their thoughts on some of the star greyhounds racing in Victoria.

Keep an eye on these, they are worth saving in your WatchDog Blackbook!

Quilts  Gents, it is a busy weekend of feature chasing with the Group 2 Sportsbet Horsham Cup Final on Friday night and the Sportsbet Emerald Final at Healesville on Sunday.

Gerard  It’s unfortunate that Panadero Warrior has been scratched this morning from the Sportsbet Horsham Cup Final, but there’s plenty of class vying for the $47,000 first prize.

Trent  Baby Jaycee continues to impress and she was tough last Friday night. Can she finally break through at Group level after three runner-up finishes, including two in Group 1s?

Gerard  Jungle Panther is virtually unbeatable at Horsham with six wins from seven 485m starts, and Stealth also performs well there. Matt’s Hope must be respected with his early pace, while Zara’s Ivan was fifth in last year’s Horsham Cup Final.

Quilts  Fellas, don’t discount He’s No Slouch. I spoke to his trainer Peter Craig and he acknowledged that the Group 2 final is a tough race, but He’s No Slouch is right in the mix.

Trent  Sunday’s final of the Sportsbet Emerald promises to be a ripper. The dual Healesville track record holder Unleash Collinda is the headline act, but oh boy, he just prevailed in Tuesday’s heat.

Quilts  Not For Profit scorched the track as the fastest heat winner on Tuesday, which was his 12th victory from 15 starts. If he starts like he did on Tuesday, watch out.

Gerard  Maybe Yesterday has been valiantly chasing Unleash Collinda in the past month, while Gunai Bold was outstanding on Tuesday winning for the sixth time at start 10.

Quilts  Silver Brute is another speed machine as well. He’s won five of his six 300m starts at Healesville, and he boasts a terrific record of 33 wins and 12 minor placings from 54 races.

Trent  Good luck to the Victorian-based greyhounds this weekend in the Country Classic semi-finals at Dubbo, the heats of the Perth Cup and Galaxy at Cannington, and the Group 3 Cup finals at Temora and Murray Bridge. It’s a shame that Wow She’s Fast won’t be going around in the Perth Cup heats, which was announced by Gerard this morning.
