Wow She’s Fast out of Perth Cup

Champion Victorian sprinter Wow She’s Fast will be scratched from Saturday night’s Group 1 Perth Cup heats at Cannington.

The world’s highest earning greyhound, Wow She’s Fast, which was $1.30 favourite with Sportsbet for the opening Perth Cup heat, had trialled at Cannington last Saturday night in preparation for the series, clocking 29.91sec.

The below-par performance concerned co-trainer Kel Greenough and subsequent blood tests resulted in Wow She’s Fast returning to Victoria on Thursday morning.

“Basically, the blood tests showed that the plane trip to Perth last week had stressed her out,” Greenough explained.

“There was six crates of dogs on the flight and by the time we got her off, it had been six and a quarter hours since she was loaded and she was a mess.

“That was on Thursday and by Saturday she was better, but she was still a bit flat and quiet.

“Then she trialled ordinary, so I checked her out and she was sound, so I had a full blood count done and she’ll be out.

“In this situation, it’s not an injury problem, it’s about treatment and rest, and to get her back to normal it will be a minimum two weeks.

“For her to run in the Sandgroper back over in Perth (Friday, April 14) everything would have to go right over the next two weeks. I’ve told Sportsbet I’ll give them a definite answer in two weeks, but suggested they might start looking at other options.”
