With International Women’s Day being celebrated this week, recently appointed Melbourne Greyhound Racing Association Chair, Dr Barbara Backhoy has appeared in a feature video for GRVextra.
A respected veterinarian and the first female Chair at The Meadows, Dr Backhoy gave an insight into how she was first introduced to greyhound racing, explaining that she has noticed a change in what was once a male-dominated industry.
Dr Backhoy is one of a number of prominent females in greyhound racing today.
GRV Chair Peita Duncan and Board Members Marika McMahon and Lisa Tripodi, Shepparton GRC President Tracey Fothergill and Club Managers Jodie Faralla (Ballarat) Cynthia O’Brien (Healesville) and Olivia Alcock (Traralgon) are just a handful of females leading the way at administration level.
While on the racetrack some of Victoria’s more prominent trainers include Andrea Dailly, Lisa Delbridge, Brooke Ennis, Samantha Grenfell, Donna Knight, Angela Langton and Michelle Mallia to name just a few.
And let’s not forget our greyhound superstars such as all-time highest prize money earner, two-million dollar girl Wow She’s Fast, who eclipsed another member of the fairer sex at the top of the table, Fanta Bale.
