Dogs to follow

Form expert Dale Code has picked out a selection of greyhounds to follow from around Victoria. You may even want to add them to your Blackbook account.

HECTOR FAWLEY
Breeding: Dec ’20 Bernardo x Rolanda Hooch
Trainer: Lisa Cockerell, Buckley
Record: 2 starts 1-1-0

Dale says: Hector Fawley has had just two starts and he could not have been more impressive with a powerful win on debut and a desperately unlucky second. Still learning and, at just 19 months of age, the scope for improvement is huge. He has already shown a great tenacity to win, and when you combine that with some early speed and strong run home sectionals, Hector Fawley appears to have the ingredients to be a successful city class performer for quite some time. He will do his best racing from an inside draw.

Best traits: Strong type; tenacious chaser
Ideal draw: Box 1
Ideal distance: 500m

WATCH: HECTOR FAWLEY (4) showed terrific mid-race pace and dashed away from his rivals in 30.36 seconds at The Meadows (525m) on July 13.     Results

DEEP WITTS
Breeding: Jan ’20 Barcia Bale x Brueghelino
Trainer: Des Douch, Maffra
Record: 15 starts 7-1-3

Dale says: Deep Witts has always shown enormous talent but he has struggled to race with any continuity due to injury. However, he has resumed racing recently with two eye-catching best-of-meeting wins at Traralgon. His turn of speed in those two victories would arguably match any dog racing at the minute and, if he can stay fit and healthy, Deep Witts has the potential to win a country cup.

Best traits: Amazing turn of speed soon after box rise
Ideal draw: Box 1
Ideal distance: 450m

“If he can stay fit and healthy, Deep Witts has the potential to win a country cup.”

WATCH: DEEP WITTS (5) recovered from a moderate start to power away late in a winning time of 21.99 seconds at Traralgon (395m) on July 15.     Results

ALWAYS A THRILL
Breeding: Aug ’20 Aussie Infrared x Okawa In Black
Trainer: Chris Tilley, Sale
Record: 12 starts 5-1-3

Dale says: Always A Thrill burst on to the scene winning four of his first six starts including a scorching Sale win in 24.80sec. He has been racing in some hot company of late with no luck until last Tuesday night when he turned in a super performance to upstage the brilliant True Collinda. Armed with an exceptional mid-race motor, Always A Thrill likes to move wide in his races so he will perform best when he draws off the track and I’m expecting him to become a prolific winner on the provincial circuit.

Best traits: Elite middle section speed
Ideal draw: Box 8
Ideal distance: 450m

“I’m expecting Always A Thrill to become a prolific winner on the provincial circuit.”

WATCH: ALWAYS A THRILL (2) produced a devastating turn of foot in the home straight to prevail in a slick time of 22.52 seconds at Warragul (400m) on July 19.     Results
