Dogs to follow

Form expert Dale Code has picked out a selection of greyhounds to follow from around Victoria. You may even want to add them to your Blackbook account.

ELITE TOMMY
Breeding: Feb ’20 Barcia Bale x Long Hot Sommer
Trainer: Scott Stefanos, Longwood
Record: 2 starts 0-2-0

Dale says: “Has been runner-up in his first two starts, both at Shepparton over 390m. He displayed great early speed on each occasion, in particular last start when he clocked a flying first section of 7.97sec which would match motors with the brilliant Ferdinand Boy early. He is engaged to run at Shepparton tonight and looks set to break his maiden status. Should get stronger with more racing and, with his blinding early speed, Elite Tommy can be a more than handy provincial performer.”

Best traits: Elite early sectionals; huge scope for improvement
Ideal draw: Box 1
Ideal distance: 300m

“With his blinding early speed, Elite Tommy can be a more than handy provincial performer.”

WATCH: ELITE TOMMY (5) displayed electric early speed and was just run down late in a winning time of 21.83 seconds at Shepparton (385m) on April 11.     Results

OSPREY ATHENA
Breeding: Sep ‘20 Barcia Bale x Mepunga Rosie
Trainer: Angela Langton, Anakie
Record: 2 starts 2-0-0

Dale says: “Has impressed in winning both of her starts at Sandown Park over 515m making light work of her opposition with all-the-way wins in fast time clocking 29.42sec and 29.24sec respectively. Her run-home time in her last win of 11.36sec was elite and, with her combination of early speed and strength, Osprey Athena has the recipe to be a front-running middle-distance star.”

Best traits: Elite run home sectionals; plenty of upside
Ideal draw: Box 1
Ideal distance: 600m

“Osprey Athena has the recipe to be a front-running middle-distance star.”

WATCH: OSPREY ATHENA (6) never gave her rivals a chance when victorious by over eight lengths in 29.24 seconds at Sandown Park (515m) on April 17.     Results

KARMEN KRISTY
Breeding: Dec ’19 Fernando Bale x Shesa Felon
Trainer: David McKenzie, Tynong North
Record: 36 starts 11-2-9

Dale says: “Former New South Wales chaser that has performed admirably since her move to Victoria which included a smart all-the-way Sandown Park win in 29.64sec in February. Since that victory she has raced in some tough company and has been more than competitive, particularly at Warragul on April 12 where she showed her customary early speed when placed behind the smart Alpine Butterfly in fast time. Karmen Kristy is in an easier race at Warragul this Tuesday night and is drawn ideally in Box 8 and I’m expecting her to return to the winners list.”

Best traits: Top early-mid race speed
Ideal draw: Box 8
Ideal distance: 450m

“Karmen Kristy is in an easier race at Warragul this Tuesday night … and I’m expecting her to return to the winners list.”
