Daily Mail: Boy, what a clash at Bendigo

Exciting prospect Amron Boy – victorious in his first five races and a Launching Pad semi-finalist – lines up against Panama Canal – triumphant in his last seven starts – in a Mixed 4/5 525m race at Bendigo this evening.

Premier Racing at The Meadows tonight is highlighted by the appearance of G1 Rookie Rebel runner-up Aston Ulysses in a Grade 5 525m event after racing over 650m at Shepparton last Monday night.

Nifty Nangar – the conqueror of Aston Ulysses last Monday night – faces G1 Fanta Bale Super Stayers finalists Flying Lantern and Overflow Lisa, plus Not Happening, in a Mixed 4/5 730m race.

TAB fixed odds: $2 Win

The Watchdog says
? : She has turned in some big performances of late and from the ‘red’, there should be no excuses tonight. She can show enough early pace to hold the lead, however as long as she can settle in the top three and avoid bother through the first turn, she should prove far too strong in the run home.

? $3 Win – PANAMA CANAL

? Must Watch Race ?

Mixed Grade 4/5

? Bendigo ? Race 7
? Box 8 ? 425m ⏱ 7:31pm

TAB fixed odds: $3 Win

The Watchdog says ?: Obviously AMRON BOY (3) is the faster of the two ‘big guns’ overall, however he is making his 425m debut and with a stack of pace in this event, he is likely to get crowded early on. If PANAMA CANAL (8) can step on terms, he should be able to follow BUSTED BILLY (7) across and then assume control as they head into the bend and they will have to go lightning fast to get past him.

‘Must Watch Race’ Preview ?:

AMRON BOY (3) is one of the most exciting prospects going around and he makes his provincial circuit debut tonight. Obviously with a clear run, he simply wins with ease, however his seven starts to date have all been in town over 500m and he meets a number of chasers with good early burn, so he can’t afford to miss the kick. PANAMA CANAL (8) has gone five-of-five since resuming and he continues to go to another level with every run. He has shown in his past two that he is just not a straight track specialist with terrific wins around Ballarat and Warragul and with the ability to carve out around 23.60sec here, he is capable of causing a minor upset. I think the winner will come from one of those two, however BUSTED BILLY (7) is a capable type, so if the two ‘big guns’ happen to make a mistake, the Warrnambool Derby placegetter may be there to capitalise.

The Watchdog’s selections: 8 – 3 – 7 – 4

? $3 Win – SNAPPER SMITH
? The Meadows ? Race 9 ? Box 6 ? 525m ⏱ 9:19pm
TAB fixed odds: $3.10 Win
Form ? https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/666542975/race/9

The Watchdog says
? : I originally had RADEK BALE (8) on top in my selections, however with the scratchings I believe SNAPPER SMITH (6) appears to be the better chance. With the vacant draw underneath, she should get enough room to balance up and she can exit the first bend in front of ‘Radek’ and if that occurs, I don’t think he will be able to get past her.
