Daily Mail: Oh ‘Brother’, what a race at Ballarat

Brother Bearing – victorious in six of his last seven starts – is The Watchdog’s top selection in a quality $8,500 to-the-winner Anniversary Trophy at Ballarat this evening.

Hennessey – triumphant in nine of his last 11 races including the G3 Provincial Plate final – along with G2 Geelong Gold Cup winner Weblec Jet and G2 Warragul Cup finalist Ultimate Avenger will challenge Brother Bearing.

2021 G2 Laurels finalist Devine Empress is expected to win her sixth race from eight starts, while 2020 G2 Laurels finalist Immunity races for the first time in two months.

In-form chasers Rufiano and Invictus Jaxson should be a top duel at The Meadows this afternoon, while Not Happening and G3 placegetter Overflow Lisa clash at Sale tonight.

The Watchdog says
? : NOT HAPPENING (1) is a classy middle-distance chaser and he showed a return to form with a top placing at Ballarat last time. He likes to scrape the paint and with QUEEN REDEEM (2) expected to lead, he should get a nice sit initially and then assume control in the middle stages. OVERFLOW LISA (6) is the obvious danger, but I think we can settle in front of her and that could be the difference.

The Watchdog says
? : NOT HAPPENING (1) as mentioned previously, showed a return to form at Ballarat last time and from the good draw, he should get every chance to get the job done. DR. MADISON (3) was placed in very good company here on Sunday night and she should find this event a little easier.

? Must Watch Race ?

Anniversary Trophy

? Ballarat ? Race 4
? Box 2 ? 450m ⏱ 7:58pm

TAB fixed odds: $3 Win

The Watchdog says ?: BROTHER BEARING (2) was a dominant winner of the Cup Night Match Race at Warragul, and he has been racing in electrifying form. There is little early pace from WEBLEC JET (1), so BROTHER BEARING should find the rail early on. He recently carved out a ridiculous 24.88sec when winning here and a repeat of that can see him score again.

‘Must Watch Race’ Preview ?:

Only a field of five but it’s an elite line-up with a stack of early speed. HENNESSEY (5) was luckless in the Group 2 Warragul Cup final when a short-priced favourite and he will be looking to make amends. Prior to that defeat, he had scored some electrifying wins on the provincial circuit and an even getaway should see him hit the scoreboard. BROTHER BEARING (2) won the Cup Night Match Race at Warragul, and he is my tip tonight. He has been beginning a lot better of late and he recently carved out a ridiculous 24.88sec when scoring here. WEBLEC JET (1) isn’t the best of beginners, so BROTHER BEARING should be able to cross early and he will test HENNESSEY throughout. ULTIMATE AVENGER (7) and HAZEY ROY (8) are both armed with sizzling early speed and if the inside division happen to make a mistake, they could be off and gone through the bend.
