Daily Mail: Paua-ful chaser at Healesville

Last year’s G3 Healesville Cup runner-up Paua Of Oscar (17 from 34 – 2 from 3 Trk/Dst) returned to winning form last Sunday and the former Warragul 400m track record holder is The Watchdog’s top selection in today’s 350m Free For All at Healesville.

Braemar Prince (17 from 37 – 2 from 2 Box 1), Victorian Straight Track Championship runner-up Smart As Jack (6 from 13 Trk/Dst) and Jordanville Jet will provide stiff opposition to Paua Of Oscar, while the latter’s kennelmate Paua Of Janie (7 from 11) is expected to prevail in a Grade 5 350m heat.

Hello George (3 from 4 Box 1) v Soda Pee Wee (3 of last 4 – 16.53sec PB) v Slingshot Reaper (2 of last 3 – 5 from 8 Trk/Dst) v She’s So Lovable should be an exciting 300m Free For All.

Aston Latham (6 from 8 – 5 from 6 Trk/Dst) v Adonis Sands (2 of last 4) v Smokin’ Grille battle in the Restricted Win (350m) final, while Main Force v Mt. View Audrey (5 of last 9) v Ivy Isobel (2 from 2 Trk/Dst) v Ha Ha Magoo (2 of last 3) should be competitive.

Paddy’s Marvel (14 from 24) is the standout chaser at Horsham, while Western Blazer v G3 finalist Aston Ulysses v Studley is an intriguing affair.

Boston Garden (3 from 4 Box 7) v G3 finalist Mepunga Freda (2 of last 4) and Aston Jonas v Mepunga Legend (2 from 2 Box 7) v Weblec Flame (3 of last 6) are great clashes for promising greyhounds.

At Sale, G3 Great Chase winner Ridge (5 of last 6) faces kennelmate Harrigan and Golden Skyrocket (2 from 3 Box 8), while G1 finalist Persian Goddess is also in action.

G1 Australian Cup placegetter Lakeview Cruiser and Do Good Davlin should both be too classy for their rivals as well.

The Watchdog says
?: Very even affair and any one of the eight runners could get the cash. PAUA OF OSCAR (2) is a gifted speedster and he returned to straight track racing with a dashing 19.41sec win here last Sunday and although he will need some luck early, he looks well placed again. He can be a little hit or miss early and I’m expecting him to settle in the middle of the pack, however the leading division are quite even, so they should be bumping up front and he will be able to pick them off late. SMART AS JACK (3) has not had a lot of luck in his most recent performances, however he comes into this after a month off. I’m expecting him to regain some much needed confidence and he loves racing up the straight. BRAEMAR PRINCE (1) had been struggling for a little while, but he has come back in great style having won five of his past six in blistering fashion and he is drawn to figure prominently again. He is unbeaten from this draw and is five-of-11 (45 percent) this track/distance, so if he can do everything right at box rise, he should be able to settle in the top two and make a big impact. JORDANVILLE JET (7) has a tremendous record here over both distances and he tends to scout wide in his races, so if the inside division happen to bump early, he could be off and gone mid race. REAR VIEW MIRROR (5) and RACK CITY (8) are both straight-track specialists as well and although they rise slightly in class today, they are both more than capable types.

The Watchdog says
? : MR. DAZZLING (1) has been impressive to date, and he is drawn to make every post a winner. ASTON ZIEBELL (1) is another who has turned in some smart performances to date and with a clean getaway, he should prove too strong in the run home. PADDY’S MARVEL (4) resumes from a spell; however, he is in good hands and should be primed for a bold showing. He has panels on his rivals talent wise and should be leading throughout.

Multi price:

TAB fixed odds: $3.20 Place
Form ?

The Watchdog says
? : I didn’t have him in my top four selections as I believe there are better winning chances. However, he is a very powerful type, and he should be able to run home into a place at nice odds. He has been racing well on turning tracks of late, but he has won six of 11 (45 percent) here and a bold showing is expected.

? Healesville ? Race 7 ? Box 8 ? 350m ⏱ 12:52pm
TAB fixed odds: $5 Win
Form ?

The Watchdog says
? : He turned in a terrific performance here last Tuesday when resuming and he will be much better for the run. With ADONIS SANDS (7) expected to come out running and move to the rail, he should get a nice cart across early, and he will be very strong in the closing stages.

? Horsham ? Race 7 ? Box 7 ? 485m ⏱ 3:42pm
TAB fixed odds: $2.90 Win
Form ?

The Watchdog says
? : He is ideally drawn out wide and with the vacant draw on his inside, he should get every chance to balance up early and he can really dial up the pressure through the bend. He carved out a blistering 25.64sec when scoring at Geelong recently and he’s had a look at this track, so he should have no trouble negotiating the first bend.
