Bendigo moves to the prime Sunday timeslot today to kick off two brand new age-restricted events which have attracted a number of up-and-coming stars.
Three heats of the Bendigo Roses (425m) and The Prospector (425m) – for female and male greyhounds respectively – will be run with both finals to be held on Friday night boasting a $15K first prize.
Aston Flame (5 from 7), a litter sister to Aston Rupee and Aston Fastnet, is among the most exciting talents in the Roses heats (read more), while Paua Of Buddy (3 from 4), Masked Avenger (10 from 21), Mepunga Reject (Cranbourne Winter Cup) and Rebellious (6 from 8), are three of the more notable names in The Prospector series.
Later at Bendigo, the brilliant Barooga Smoke (G3 Easter Gift) faces a tricky challenge first up from a spell.
At Sandown today, Koblenz (14 from 19) is putting his nine-race winning streak on the line when he takes on Collinda Patty (3 from 6), the latter being two from two since joining Jason Thompson’s team. Both greyhounds took out finals in brilliant fashion on Pink Diamond night.
And at Sale tonight watch for Lakeview Cruiser (3rd Australian Cup) and Omega Dodge (5 of past 8).

The Watchdog says ?: Cracking series and this heat sees five potential stars do battle. PAUA OF BUDDY (3) is going to be the punters elect and rightly so, as he comes into this having won three of three at Warragul and all of those wins have been in scintillating times. On each occasion, he has shown blistering pace soon after box rise, so with the abundance of pace drawn inside, he will need to do everything right initially. WEBLEC RAIDER (2) captured the rich Pink Diamond Maiden Sprinter Final (500m) here last week and he will appreciate the drop back in distance. He has proven to be a reliable beginner to date, and he should be able to settle in the top three early. With the ability to go sub 23.70sec, he can make a big impact. MASKED AVENGER (7) has won five of six over this track/distance and he can really burn in the early stages. He recorded his blistering 23.68sec PB from this draw and if the inside division bunch early, he may get the fly mid race. YOHAN BALE (1) and SUBSTANTIAL (5) round out the leading chances. ‘Yohan’ continues to improve with each run and from the inside draw he can hold the early lead and may cause an upset. SUBSTANTIAL is as talented as any other greyhound in the event, however he will need a little room to move soon after box rise.
Selections: 7 – 1 – 2 – 3
