Two spectacular $21K Gr8 Eight races are the showpiece events at Sandown Park tonight.
Country cups king Yozo Bale is the star attraction in the sprint version, but he is fr from a sure thing with the likes of Providence Bale (7 of past 8), Carry On Star (2nd G1 Sapphire Crown), Special Talent (won past 4), multiple group finalist Do It and Jepara (5 of past 9) also chasing the rich spoils.
Meanwhile, tonight’s 715m Gr8 Eight looms as a wonderful battle between Hank The Hustler (3 of past 5) v Zipping Rambo (G1 Sandown Cup).
Earlier tonight, there’ll also be plenty of interest in how the uniquely gifted Gypsy Wyong (4 from 7) handles the step up to 595m.
Meanwhile, a host of stars will be heading to Warrnambool including Rocket Boy (21 from 44), former Ballarat track record holder Pirate Pete (3 of past 5) and Papi Go Fast (21 from 38), not to mention a fantastic contest between Slingshot Titan (25 from 50) v Zambora Lou (Healesville Cup).

The Watchdog says ?: We see another fantastic line-up for the Gr8 Eight Series, and it should be keenly contested throughout. ZIPPING RAMBO (4) stamped himself as the premier stayer in the land when capturing the Group 1 Sandown Cup Final and he showed his versatility by backing up the following week and winning the Speed Star over 595m. He is racing with extreme confidence at present, and he is expected to take a power of beating tonight, however there is a lot of early speed engaged for a stayer’s event and we know he does not like to be crowded, so the run to the first bend is going to be crucial. HANK THE HUSTLER (1) is a bit of a Sandown specialist, and he appears to be the obvious danger. He has scored some blistering wins over this journey previously, but he has shown that when pressured mid race, he does tend to get tired, so he too will have to do everything right in the initial stages. WHATEVER I SAY (2) is on the up and, with her early speed, she can be a nuisance to the two topliners. With a few more tries over this journey she has the potential to establish herself as a genuine topflight stayer. WEBLEC HAZE (7) rounds out the main winning chances and he represents the value. He is always competitive in races of this nature and with the abundance of early speed engaged, he should be able to drift across into a stalking position mid race and he may be able to pick them off late.
