‘Thrill Of The Chase’: National Greyhound Draft special

Greyhound racing’s second annual National Greyhound Draft was broadcast live this morning on 7Mate’s new program ‘Thrill Of The Chase’.

The innovative concept provides an easy and affordable pathway into greyhound ownership with eight teams involving many of Australia’s most successful trainers each selecting three impeccably bred young pups not yet 12 months of age.

First pick in the draft went to Victorian trainer Ashlee Terry, who selected a Barcia Bale x Rhonda Rocks pup.

National Greyhound Draft expert, George Farrugia said Ashlee’s pick was a shrewd selection.

“Rhonda Rocks has produced a really successful litter to Fernando Bale, which includes dual Group 1 winner Sennachie. And he’s not a one-off because the litter has won over $600,000 in prize money,” Farrugia said.

Ashlee, who had picks 1, 16 & 17, was delighted with her three selections on the day.

“The three pups I’ve drafted were all in the top eight on my list, so I’m very happy,” she said.

This week’s special guest on Molly’s Lounge was adopted 12-year-old greyhound Blue, who is owned by GRV Chair Peita Duncan.

“The National Greyhound Draft is so fantastic because syndication is a great way to get involved in our sport for a small entry fee. I love watching this even more than watching the AFL draft,” Peita said.

Also featured on today’s episode was leading greyhound trainer Anthony Azzopardi, who is involved in the National Greyhound Draft as a trainer for Team Borda, and Hannah Woodward, a part-owner in last year’s number one draft pick Wallbanger.
