Ward’s Warrnambool ‘fab five’

Mount Moriac trainer Kevin Ward experienced a red-letter day with a five-winner haul at Warrnambool yesterday.

Ward’s ‘fab five’ – all giveaways – were Nyssa’s Girl ($34.30), Dodgy Digger ($11.90), Keybow Sally ($7.10), Josie’s Call ($3.10F) and Kara The Escapee ($31.10).

Amazingly, a $1 ‘Multi’ on the quintet would have returned almost $280,000!

“I’ve had a few trebles at Mount Gambier during the past couple of years, but this is easily my best result,” Ward, who has been training for around 15 years, said.

Ward’s profitable four and a half hour round trip netted him $4125 in prizemoney. But he says it was a different result ‘on the punt’.

“I had a few bets yesterday and just finished in front,” Ward said. “I backed Don’s Scolari, who finished second, each-way and had Mr. Blurton, who was also second, for the win. He was beaten by kennelmate Keybow Sally. And I had a successful win bet on Josie’s Girl – she loves the track and was the only one I was really confident about.”

But Ward added Nyssa’s Girl, Kara The Escapee and Dodgy Digger “were complete shocks”.

“Nyssa’s Girl got into the field as a reserve, while Kara The Escapee only occasionally runs quick splits and Dodgy Digger’s recent form has been a bit ordinary,” he said.

WATCH: Kara The Escapee (2) clocks 22.30sec (Best) over 390m at Warrnambool yesterday.

Pawnote: Ward rugged 13 starters on the 12-event program for five wins, two seconds and a third.
