Big Freeze Returns to ‘The Ville’ as Healesville Targets Record Fundraising Effort

For the third consecutive year, the Healesville Greyhound Racing community is stepping up in the fight against Motor Neurone Disease (MND), hosting its annual Big Freeze event this Sunday.

More than 20 personalities will take on the icy slide into a freezing pool, raising vital funds to support MND research and care.

Headlining this year’s Big Freeze at ‘The Ville’ are Married at First Sight personality Jeff Gobbels and Brisbane Lions premiership ruckman Oscar McInerney.

The Healesville Greyhound Racing community has already surpassed last year’s impressive fundraising total of $33,000, setting an ambitious new target of $60,000.

With four days remaining until the event, $42,721 has already been raised.

Support has poured in from across the greyhound racing industry nationwide.

Awesome Lodge pledged $50 for every greyhound wearing the blue rug (box four) that won throughout May, donating $6,400 from 128 winners.

A strong lineup of the sports personalities will take part, including Healesville local and race caller James Van de Maat, along with leading trainers Jason Thompson, Rob Britton, Kayla Cottrell and Paul Abela.

They will be joined by Mel Tochner (Sandown Vet Clinic) and GRV’s Chief Photographer Clint Anderson, all set to brave the cold for a great cause.

GRV CEO Stuart Laing and Executive General Manager of Integrity and Welfare Shane O’Connell will also take the plunge.

The event will also feature well-known personalities from beyond the greyhound racing community, including Mark “Jacko” Jackson, Russell Robertson and Community Pete.

With strong momentum behind fundraising efforts and a stacked lineup of participants, this year’s Big Freeze at The Ville is shaping up to be the biggest yet.

It not too late to take part, you can donate HERE or come along and enjoy a day at the races on Sunday from 11am.
