Eventuate has stamped herself as a serious contender for next month’s Group 1 Sportsbet Sapphire Crown, following a dazzling 595m debut at Sandown Park on Thursday night.
The Jason Sharp-trained chaser stopped the clock in a slick 33.91 seconds, producing a near-flawless performance from box four after spearing straight to the front holding off a field with plenty of middle-distance experience.
The daughter of Tommy Shelby and Need A Margarita was only a length and a half outside the track’s first split record, underlining the early speed that has long hinted at her upside.
Sharp has been confident in Eventuate’s ability since the early stages of her career, noting she had the makings of a standout performer once everything clicked.
Already proven over the 515m at Sandown Park, Eventuate looks well placed ahead of the Group 1 Sportsbet Sapphire Crown heats on May 14.
The Sapphire Crown forms part of Sandown’s newly launched “Trilogy” series, alongside the Harrison-Dawson (515m) and Sandown Cup (715m), with excitement continuing to build around the three-race feature event.
With just over two weeks until the heats, Eventuate is expected to have another run or two as she builds towards her next Group 1 assignment.
