It’s a good card at The Meadows tonight, with handy ones returning to city racing in Victoria after competing in features elsewhere.
The quaddie legs stand out in terms of quality. The night’s biggest point of interest is young gun Hurricane stepping up to 600m after just 10 starts, which will be no issue whatsoever for him. Let’s see what he does against the classy Valenzuela.
BEST
Race 1, Mepunga Rule (2)
As much as $2.90 was available this morning, which is staggering, and at the time of writing this, he’s $2. There’s no reason to think that he’s not going to accelerate to lead and then win. He’s got more early speed than any other here and runs better overall times.
NEXT BEST
Race 8, Zelda Covilha (4)
His first 50m is uneasy but with Lektra Beta (5) on his outside, who will hold a straight line with speed, it should allow Zelda Covilha to settle cleanly. From that point onwards he will turn it on, he’s got power and is the hardest to beat. Highly Connected (6) is a threat but may be inconvenienced by Lektra Beta, Paw Damon (8) is a powerhouse but the draw and speed map is horrible.
BEST VALUE
Race 10, Prison Break (3)
A greyhound with very little early speed but is very strong, loves an inside draw and he might get a cruisy run on the rail here. If he does, he’ll be charging through them late. The draw is good and at $6 it’s value.
WORTH THE RISK/TAKE ON
Race 11, Nova Owen (4)
He’s won four of his past 49 – honest dog who regularly runs good placings but at $3.80 from a middle draw, it’s unders. Every chance to run a place but the stars would have to align for him to win. Happy to take on.
