Ultimate entrée for Warrnambool Cup heats

If there was ever a race to set the scene for what’s to come in Sportsbet Warrnambool Cup heats next week, this is it.

Race 8 on Thursday night at ‘The Bool’ features some deadset guns of Victoria’s sprinting ranks.

In order of prize money, it’s led by last year’s Topgun winner in Slick Splits. He returns after a good campaign in Sydney for the Golden Easter Egg, despite finishing at the rear of the field from an unsuitable draw in the final.

Next up it’s the Sportsbet Australian Cup winner, Dramatical. He’s been winless in his four starts since the Australian Cup, finding drama in his most recent three. We should get a clear gauge of where he’s at in this race.

If that wasn’t enough, The Meadows’ track record holder and Silver Chief winner Traumatise returns to racing for the first time since New Year’s Day. You’d expect he’s humming and box 1 doesn’t hurt.

Then the lesser known of the guns in the race is a last start country cup winner in Paw Matic, in what’s probably a tougher test than what she faced in the Sportsbet Geelong Cup.

And I’ll walk from GRV’s head office to The Meadows if one of the other three dogs in the race gets the job done.

Get your alarms in order to avoid missing this, it’ll jump at 7.52pm on Thursday night.
