In case you missed it

Form expert Dale Code has picked out a selection of runs from around Victoria that have caught the eye over the past fortnight.

#1 FERNANDO FRANK (Box 8)
Breeding:
May ’18 Fernando Bale x Naught Cazza
Trainer: David Knocker, Pearcedale
Record: 55 starts 12-17-5
Dale says: “One of the fiercest chasers I have ever seen and this run epitomises Fernando Frank’s will to win. So many things went wrong in the run – he was hampered early, pushed wide and subsequently was shuffled back to last. Then on multiple occasions he was blocked for a run and lost serious momentum when making a charge. Finally, he got into the clear and despite being turned sideways on the home turn he raced to the lead and went on to record a brilliant victory.”     Results

#2 TYPHOON SAMMY (Box 1)
Breeding:
Jan ’19 Aston Dee Bee x Zabaleta
Trainer: Jason Thompson, Pearcedale
Record: 23 starts 16-0-3
Dale says: “Hard to go past a track record performance, and that’s exactly what Typhoon Sammy achieved in his electrifying 425m win in a heat of the Bendigo Cup. Perfectly drawn in box 1, ‘Sammy’ quickly assumed control soon after box rise and was never threatened, going on to lower Shima Shine’s record (23.35sec) when stopping the clock in a freakish 23.28sec. In the process he comfortably defeated one of the greatest sprinters we’ve seen in recent times in the evergreen Tiggerlong Tonk.”     Results

#3 CRISPY DUCK (Box 4)
Breeding:
April ’18 Barcia Bale x Blue Benzol
Trainer: Dennis Langley, Tooradin
Record: 45 starts 8-6-8
Dale says: “The $2.60 favourite had punters’ hearts in their mouths when the popular elect stumbled out of the traps and, shortly after, was squeezed out to the rear of the field. Spotting the leaders a big lead at the halfway point, victory looked beyond him. However, Crispy Duck went into overdrive and, hard up against the rail, he sprouted wings in the concluding stages to share victory with Alecia (2) in a brilliant last-to-first performance.”     Results

#4 DUNDEE EMBER (Box 8)
Breeding:
Nov ’18 Dundee Osprey x Dundee Calypso
Trainer: Geoffrey Scott-Smith, Pakenham South
Record: 34 starts 5-9-6
Dale says: “Was listed in the recent edition of ‘Dogs to Follow’ and she didn’t let followers down with this stunning performance. Drawn inside out in box 8, Dundee Ember began slowly and, in trying to cut down to the rails, she checked off heels and found herself a distant last.  Railing strongly through the first turn, ‘Ember’ made up solid ground in the middle stages and showed great track sense to weave her way in between runners as they turned into the home straight. From there she powered home to record an eye-catching last-to-first victory. What made this run ever more impressive was that she recorded a sizzling 29.97sec over the 520m journey.”     Results
