Daily Mail: ‘Phil’ to test Thompson’s True talent

The Monday racing spotlight will be focused firmly on Shepparton tonight with The Watchdog excited about the ‘Must Watch’ clash between True Collinda, a newcomer to the potent Jason Thompson kennel, and My Name’s Phil.

True Collinda (4 from 9), a litter sister to Sandown 595m record holder and G3 Speed Star (600m) winner Collinda Patty, ran third at Bendigo first-up for Thompson and drawn in Box 1, The Watchdog is tipping her to prevail against another lightly-raced talent in Rod Clark’s My Name’s Phil (3 from 9).

Jason Thompson will also produce an exciting prospect in the undefeated Decimate (4 from 4), which will be engaged in an intriguing clash against Dynamic Prince (2 from 3).

Trained by Peter Presutto, Dynamic Prince was thrown in the deep end in the G2 Healesville Cup heats at just his third start but lost no admirers when third to superstar Tiggerlong Tonk, with tonight’s Shepparton assignment obviously representing a massive drop in class.

Another Thompson tyro to create great interest is In The Spotlight (3 from 4), which will face no easy task tackling Invictus Benson (3 from 11 – 2 from 2 Trk/Dst) and Soda Titan (4 from 11 – 3 from 4 Trk/Dst).

At the other end of the scale, Thompson’s star 2020 G2 Healesville Cup winner Zambora Lou (25 from 56 – 3 of past 4) will tackle Rob Camilleri’s Chop Scotch (15 from 34 – 3 from 5 Box 8).

Other prominent Shepparton contenders include the prolific Blackpool Flash (26 from 52) and talented Kraken Stinger (4 from 11), while the duel between Studley (8 from 22 – 2 from 3 Box 1) and Gunai Rebel (14 from 34 – 2 from 3 Box 4) promises to be a beauty.

? MUST-WATCH RACE: Rich River Golf Club Heat 3

TRUE COLLINDA  ? MY NAME’S PHIL

? Shepparton ? Race 3 ? 450m 7:44pm

Form ? https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/666538958/race/3

The Watchdog says ?: TRUE COLLINDA (1) showed enormous potential in her first preparation and she will be looking to atone for her defeat at Bendigo last week when making her debut for the powerful Thompson kennel. The kennel has done an enormous job with her siblings in Collinda Patty and Collinda Beast and big things are expected for this chaser. She recorded some blistering wins at Sale when she first burst onto the scene in February/March of this year and if she can pounce on the lead tonight, she could press the 25 seconds barrier. MY NAME’S PHIL (7) is another promising speedster and he has some brilliant straight track wins to his credit. Three runs back, he lit up the clock with a cracking 19.17sec Healesville win and he does like to use plenty of the track, so from the good draw, he should get plenty of room to balance up and he can pressure the favourite throughout. GREYSYND SHOCK (4) is a bit of a Shepparton specialist and he also needs to be respected. He  is capable of leading or coming from off the pace in his races and with some luck early, he can cause a minor upset. It should be a keenly contested event throughout and TRUE COLLINDA (1) is definitely one to follow in the coming months.

The Watchdog says ? : CRAZY OLD FOOL (1) is a desperate railer and he is never too far away in this company. ORSON RUBY (8) is still learning what it is all about, but she has plenty of talent and she will be suited by the wide draw. BIRDBROOK (1) has a great turn of foot, she is drawn to lead them up and a top two finish looks likely.

?: 1,4,6
? ?:    3,8
? ? ?: 1,5
? ? ? ?: 3,4

The Watchdog says ?: CRAZY OLD FOOL (1), PONTIAC BANDIT (4) and BELENA BLAZE (6) are all expected to be on the pace and the winner should come from one of those. TINKER CALIE (8) looks the goods in the second leg, but we have included CRYPTIC SIGNAL (3) to be safe. ROSEBUD SMILE (1) is drawn to lead throughout in the third leg, but NIGHT JAR (5) does have some talent, so she has been included. SPARKLE DEBACLE (3) looks the leader in the last leg, and she will take some catching, however ROWER’S RULE (4) is a strong type, and he will appreciate the smaller line-up.

? $2 Multi

First ?: Place – SODA TITAN
? Shepparton ? Race 2 ? Box 6 ? 450m ⏱ 7:26pm
TAB fixed odds: $1.40 Place (Top two finish required)

TAB fixed odds: $1.55 Win
Form ? https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/666538958/race/9

The Watchdog says ? : SODA TITAN (6) is an absolute beast when at his best and he has broken the magical 25 seconds barrier here. With the empty draw underneath, he should get plenty of room to balance up and put himself in a threatening position as they head into the bend. YOHAN BALE (1) is an absolute rocket and he is drawn to lead from go to whoa. KRAKEN STINGER (3) is a serious prospect and he appears to have a fair bit on his rivals tonight. ANOTHER VENDETTA (4) is a wide runner, so he will get plenty of cover early and there should be no excuses.
Multi price: $3.47

? $2 Trifecta – 1 / 2,4,7 / 2,4,5,7,8 (16.66%)
? Shepparton ? Race 3 ? 450m ⏱ 7:44pm        ? Must Watch Race ?
Form
?  https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/666538958/race/3

The Watchdog says ? : TRUE COLLINDA (1) is a star prospect and she is drawn to make every post a winner. MY NAME’S PHIL (7) is the obvious danger; however, we have included the talented REAL REWARD (2) and GREYSYND SHOCK (4) for second at value. ST. MARY’S PANDA (5) and SAMBAR CHIEF (8) are both strong types and have been included for third.

? $1.50 Win – JAZZ OPERA
? $1 Win – ASTON ATTACK                   ? Lucky Longshot ?
? Shepparton ? Race 7 ? Boxes 1 & 2 ? 450m ⏱ 9:04pm
TAB fixed odds: $2.50 Win (Jazz Opera)
TAB fixed odds: $6 Win (Aston Attack)
Form ?  https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/666538958/race/7

The Watchdog says ? : JAZZ OPERA (1) is a lightning beginner and she is drawn to lead throughout. With the scratching of TYPHOON SAMMY (6), she will not cop too much heat mid race and she is capable of going sub 25.20sec when in the clear. ASTON ATTACK (2) is a powerful type and with the speed in the red, he should get a nice run through and he will be able to save a lot of ground through the corner. If the red is off her game slightly, he should be there to pounce.
