Make no secret… The clash of Smart As Jack (18 from 46) v Aussie Secret (25 from 49) v Fly For Trix (19 from 32) at Shepparton tonight will be a humdinger!

Top trainer Jason Thompson’s juggernaut should continue as Aussie Secret (6 of past 8) has more than a touch of class, having won the Pink Diamond Short Course and contested the G1 Silver Chief. He’s also reached two G2 country cups finals.

But he won’t want to put a paw wrong as Smart As Jack was a Pink Diamond Champion Sprinter finalist (won by Shima Shine), and a G3 Northern Districts Cup finalist here late last year. He was also recently runner-up in the Victorian Straight Track Championship.

And let’s not forget Fly For Trix who is a G3 winner in SA.

The distance matchup between G3 Lizrene Speed Star winner Five Star (9 from 31 – 3 from 3 Box 4) v rising stayer Major Sacrifice (7 from 23 – 4 of past 5) should also be first-rate.

And the magical Monday night fixture also features ultra-promising speedsters Paua of Mindy (3 from 9 + 5 x 2nds), Street Riot (5 from 10 – 2 from 2 Trk/Dst) and Fantastic Raven (11 from 28 – 3 of past 4).

Meanwhile, its sunup today for beautifully bred debutante Sienna Sunrise (22 months) at Cranbourne. She’s a younger half-sister of G1 Melbourne Cup hero, Hard Style Rico.

The Watchdog says ?: AUSSIE SECRET (4) has continued to the next level and looks poised to score again. He’s won a ridiculous 25 of 49 (51%) and is the reigning Pink Diamond Short Course champion. This event features a few handy types, but if he steps on terms, he should pounce on the early lead and will be carving out serious time on the arm. SMART AS JACK (1) has come up with the right draw and appears the obvious danger. He’ll need to be at his best to go with the favourite but has won five of 11 here and if he can reproduce a sizzling 25.06sec PB run, he won’t be too far away as they reach the line. FLY FOR TRIX (7) has been luckless since his scorching 25.64sec Warragul win and will be looking to make amends. He has a tremendous record from wide draws but would have been better suited drawn on the inside of the top elect. JODIE’S BOY (8) may add some value to your exotic bets. He’s always done his best racing and likes to scout wide in his races. So, with some luck at the bend, he can sneak home into some minor money.

The Watchdog says ? : CYPRESS BALE (7) finished in front of her KEYBOW SALLY last week. But she missed the kick and ‘Cypress’ speared the lids. I’m expecting ‘Sally’ to begin a lot better and she should be able to hold the top through the first corner and is very hard to get past when in front. She loves racing around this circuit, and this really does look to be her race.

The Watchdog says ? : RED MAHOGANY (1) should hold the top in the first leg. But TIGER BLURTON (5) is a strong type, so we’ve taken both runners. TOYED (3) and TIG (4) should control the second leg, while WENT FOR SWIM (2) looks the goods in the third leg. However, we’ve included the speedy BLACKPOOL STORM (5) as a bit of a saver. DOUBLE TACTIC (4) was huge last week, and I think he’ll take a power of beating in the last leg. But we’ve included on-speed runners MAELYNN BALE (6) and INGA MIA (8) just in case he finds too much early bother.
