Easter shine

One of greyhound racings shining lights, Shima Shine will tackle one of the best fields we have seen at Sandown Park tonight.

The Group 3 Easter Gift carries $35,000 in prize money and sees the culmination of , Australian Cup winner Fernando’s Riot, Shepparton Cup winner Hard Style Rico, Horsham Cup winner Tiggerlong Tonk just to name a few.

From early doors Shima Shine for Anakie based Team Dailly had big wraps on him.

“He came onto the racing scene with six wins from seven starts which also included a track record,” trainer Tom Dailly said.

Although he is yet to taste Group race success, Shima Shine has raced at elite level on three occasions with tonight  at Sandown another opportunity to reach group race glory.

“It’s the hottest fields I have seen in a long time and I find it hard to believe it isn’t a Group 1 on first look,” Dailly said.

“You could make a case for any one of the dogs in the race.”

Shima Shine will jump from box three at 8.49pm over the 515 metre distance following six weeks on the sidelines.

TAB have opened up Snag’s McKenzie as the 3.80 fixed odds favourite with Shima Shine on the second line of betting at $4.

“He wasn’t sore during his time off, but he just wasn’t himself. He is back running time now, feeling great and is ready to go.”

“I would have loved for him to be in an easier race on his return to the track, but it didn’t turn out that way. It is a big ask for him to come up against these dogs who are in great form, but I know he is doing what he needs to do to be back racing.”
