Right note hit in Great Chase final

Young sprinter Star Note was faultless in the Group 3 Great Chase final at The Meadows on Saturday night.

It was a near carbon-copy performance to what he produced in a semi-final the week prior. That being begin fast, take off and win. Impressive back-to-back performances, especially considering the early part of his races hasn’t always been something he’s nailed.

He’s now won four of his 14 starts and is still a baby. He doesn’t turn two years old until December. Given he’s already been tested over Sale’s 640m, it could mean trainer David Geall is considering the upcoming Hume Cup heats (on Melbourne Cup eve) at The Meadows over 600m.

He took the trophy home, but he won’t be the only one worth following out of the race. The Isolynx data in the Watchdog App showed us that runner-up Mepunga Turbo, Perfect Picture and Indian Star all broke 12 seconds in their run homes, meaning they’ve got serious strength.

The Great Chase has kickstarted the upcoming feature racing period at The Meadows, headlined by the Topgun on Saturday, November 7. The Topgun panel will meet this coming weekend to debate its finalists.

The Topgun begins the Dream Chasers series, which will again air on Racing.com.
