COVID-19: Advice for older Victorian greyhound trainers

The contribution senior citizens make to the sport of greyhound racing is nothing short of extraordinary, and the care and wellbeing of older Australians is a major priority in this uncertain time.

The Prime Minister has advised that COVID-19 has more serious impacts on people over 70 years of age and those with existing health conditions or comorbidities.

National Cabinet’s strong advice is for self-isolation at home to the maximum extent practicable for Australians:

  • over 70 years of age;
  • over 60 years of age who have existing health conditions or comorbidities

These groups are also advised to limit contact with others as much as possible when they travel outside.

GRV advises participants that fall into the abovementioned categories to:

  • Avoid travelling to the racetrack wherever possible.
  • Make arrangements for your greyhounds to go to the track with another registered person.
  • Contact GRV or race clubs should you need assistance in transporting your greyhounds to the track.
