SUNDAY SPECIAL – LAGOON RHETT

Highly credentialled speedster Lagoon Rhett has a distinct class advantage over his rivals at Sandown Park this afternoon.

The Watchdog found it nigh impossible to ignore Lagoon Rhett’s imposing race record and subsequently installed him as top pick in a Mixed 4/5 over 515 metres.

And Lagoon Rhett’s ‘tale of the tape’ certainly justifies the expert form analyst’s prognostication.

Prepared by Terrence Reid at Yuroke, Lagoon Rhett has notched six wins, two seconds and one third from 15 starts over Sandown Park’s sprint trip, with a 29.25sec personal best. His overall record reads 81 starts for 26 wins, 12 seconds and 14 thirds.

Lagoon Rhett is drawn in box four today, an alley from which he has exited on nine occasions for four wins, three seconds and one third. And with the scratching of Sarah Smirnoff (box three) and a vacant box on his immediate outside, Lagoon Rhett should obtain a clear passage in the mad dash to the first turn.

But perhaps the most telling statistic is that Lagoon Rhett is a four-time Group race finalist. He finished third in last year’s Group 1 Megastar (520m) at Dapto and was a finalist in this year’s Group 2 Richmond Derby (535m), Group 3 The Ambrosoli (520m) at Wentworth Park and Group 3 Bill Collins Speed Star (515m) at Sandown Park.

Check out Lagoon Rhett (box two) recording a best-of-night 29.25sec win at Sandown Park on February 14 this year:
