A handful of past and present North Melbourne footballers are trying their hand at greyhound racing after purchasing a greyhound named Petey Baqui.
Raced by the SilverFox Syndicate who is managed by North Melbourne defender Luke McDonald together with his father, former North Melbourne player Donald McDonald as well as Taylor Garner, Ben Jacobs and Carlton footballer Aaron Mullett.
“I have always enjoyed watching the greyhound races, and the opportunity came around to purchase a greyhound and we jumped at the opportunity,” Luke McDonald said.
Petey Baqui – who is named after the Kangaroos’ club doctor, has recorded one win in his three career starts for Lara training duo Jason and Jessica Sharp.
“Peter didn’t really know we were naming a greyhound after him, but I don’t think he minds – even his family have started tracking the dog to see how he is going. Peter is a bit of a cult figure around the club so we thought it was fitting to name our dog after him,” McDonald said.
Petey Baqui recorded his first win in his second start at Geelong in a GRV Vic Bred Maiden Semi Final paying a staggering $19.10 for the win.
