Recent National Distance Champion and superstar of Australian racing, Miss Envy, has been scratched from this Saturday’s Ron Hawkswell Cup at The Meadows.
To most, it probably comes as no surprise. Her performance in her heat last week was below par. The setback is minor and should only be considered a hiccup.
“It became a race against time to have her ready for Saturday’s final – it was an easy decision to scratch her,” said co-trainer Steve Shinners.
Shinners has quickly turned his attention to the biggest staying races later in the year.
Miss Envy will return to WA in the coming weeks after a short stint with the Greenough family, who are her caretakers during Victorian campaigns.
With both families looking forward to planned holidays, they are in no rush to get Miss Envy back racing.
“Everything will be angled towards being ready for the Topgun Stayers, then into the Bold Trease. She may have a race at Cannington before then, just to get her back into the swing of things.”
Miss Envy’s withdrawal from the Ron Hawkswell leaves Amron Toy as the clear favourite. His consistency of late is undeniable, and he looks to have the upper hand on the main danger, Mepunga Lara.
The Ron Hawkswell Cup (730m) is Race 8 this Saturday at The Meadows.
