Miss Envy magnificent in the Laurels

Be envious of this girl because she is very, very good.

Miss Envy was a sensational winner of the Group 2 Laurels at Sandown Park last night.

The commentary in the build up was that her draw was extremely sticky and it did play out that way. Paw Tika stepped fast then as expected pushed right immediately and bumped Miss Envy. She was forced to drop to the fence and look for a gap.

There was pressure left right and centre but she navigated it perfectly – it’s not luck, it’s class. She was then in pursuit of Spritely Sian and overtook her as they turned for home. Despite early interference she still set a solid time of 29.42.

“She had no right to win after the first 30 metres, but somehow she charged through on the inside between runners,” said race caller Dan Hibberd post-race.

She’s now won 14 of her 21 starts and amassed $372,432 in prize money for trainers Steve and Krystal Shinners. In her Laurels heat she became the third female greyhound (Wow She’s Fast and Dyna Patty the others) to break the magical 29 second barrier at Sandown Park.

Her win also triggered plenty of admiration on X.

Earlier in the night Cranbourne Cup winner Vincent Bale put on a masterclass. He produced a tough win in fast time underlining how good he is.
