Wrongly Accused headlines blockbuster Maturity heats

Wrongly Accused stamped himself as the greyhound to beat in next week’s Group 1 Maturity Classic Final with a breathtaking performance at The Meadows on Saturday night.

The star youngster extended his winning streak in stunning fashion, charging down Australian Cup winner Dramatical in what proved to be the heat of the night.

Wrongly Accused stopped the clock in a best-of-the-night 29.74 seconds, further strengthening his claims as the favourite for next week’s decider.

Happy Dad also announced himself as a genuine winning chance, producing a powerful finish to reel in Golden Easter Egg winner Off The Chart in 29.76 seconds.

Wrongly Accused (8) defeated Dramatical (1).

“There are no winners out of the box draw here because Wrongly Accused is the best greyhound in the race and could win from any box,” race caller James Van de Maat said

“Having said that, there’s plenty of pressure drawn to his outside.”

Earlier in the night, Amron Toy emerged as the fastest qualifier for the Fireball (725m), leading throughout from box one to record a slick 42.67 seconds.

NSW visitor Magpie Hector was equally impressive in taking out his heat, stopping the clock at 42.94 seconds.

The first four placegetters from each Fireball heat progressed through to next week’s final.
