Refinement, son of legendary Wow She’s Fast, made a statement last night at Sandown Park in his debut race over the 515 metres.
Despite trying conditions, Refinement produced a Wow She’s Fast like debut with a 19-length victory in a best of the night, time of 30.04 seconds.
Trainer Brad Greenough was excited by what he saw Refinement do in a field for the first time.
“He seemed to really flourish in a field, he’s such a big strong, hard chasing dog I think over all we were just chuffed Sharni has produced a good one,” Greenough said.
Refinement jumped from box four in a debut win that gave racing fans Déjà vu.
While reluctant to put a ceiling on the youngster’s ability, Greenough believes time will reveal whether he can match it with the sport’s elite performers.
“It’s only a guess on what time he can run on a good track, but time will tell and we hope it’s fast enough to compete against the higher levels.”
The decision to bypass the Pink Diamond series and instead kick off the Refinement’s career at Sandown was a deliberate one.
“He has done most of his education at Sandown and we did query if he had enough early speed to win a Pink Diamond, so we went to Sandown.”
Refinement is a son of Wow She’s Fast first litter, who is sired by Bella Infrared.
“He looks like he may be the best of his litter. We only have a couple of bitches here and the others are interstate.”
One of the most encouraging aspects of the debut performance was the strength shown, something Greenough believes could eventually see the greyhound tackle longer journeys.
“Nothing is planned for his future, and he will tell his own story with how far he goes, but we think he will run 600 metres down the track.”
